Description
We are hiring a Structural Inspector with Caltrans experience for highway and roadway projects. This is a specialized engineering role focused on ensuring the safety, integrity, and compliance of transportation infrastructure. This position involves inspecting and evaluating structural components of highways, bridges, tunnels, retaining walls, and other facilities during construction, maintenance, or rehabilitation projects. The role supports client's mission to maintain a safe and efficient transportation system across California, adhering to state and federal standards like those from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the California Building Code.
- Inspection and Evaluation : Conduct on-site inspections of structural elements (e.g., foundations, beams, decks, and seismic retrofits) to verify compliance with design plans, specifications, and safety standards. This includes checking for defects, material quality, and adherence to construction methods.
- Documentation and Reporting : Prepare detailed reports on inspection findings, including photographs, measurements, and recommendations for corrective actions. Use tools like calipers, levels, and software for data collection.
- Quality Assurance : Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and project managers to resolve issues, ensure workmanship meets standards, and prevent structural failures.
- May involve load testing or non-destructive testing (e.g., ultrasonic or ground-penetrating radar).
- Compliance and Safety : Enforce environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements, such as those under the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) for bridges. Participate in emergency inspections post-events like earthquakes or floods.
- Training and Coordination : Train junior staff or contractors on inspection protocols and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including geotechnical and environmental experts.
Required Qualification : - Years of Experience / Education / Certificates / Training :
Education : Typically requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field. Experience on a year-by-year basis may be substituted for the educational requirement.Experience : Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in structural engineering, construction inspection, or related fields.Certifications : Professional Engineer (PE) license in California is often required or preferred.Additional certifications like those from the International Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Iron Workers (ISO) or Caltrans-specific training (e.g., Bridge Inspection Training) are common.Skills : Strong knowledge of structural analysis, materials science (e.g., concrete, steel), and software like AutoCAD or inspection databases. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and ability to work in outdoor / field conditions.Wage Requirement
Starting Salary range for this job is $120,000.00 - $165,000.00. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environmentBenefits
