Summary / Objective :
The Fire Protection Estimator will be responsible for providing complete estimates for bids on projects assigned.
Essential Functions :
Review all construction documents including instructions to bidders, scope of work and general conditionsAbility to lay out fire protection systems in order to create an accurate bid takeoffSolicit subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure coverage on all scopes of workDistribute plans, specifications, and addenda to subcontractors and vendors via company ftp website and / or emailAssist in development of bid strategiesParticipate in pre-bid meetings and site visits which may result in travel time on occasionsReview take-off and pricing for completeness on all self-performed workReview in detail subcontractor and vendor quotations for full compliance with the plans and specificationsDevelop rough draft scope of work for proposalsAssist in negotiating subcontracts and procurement of materials and equipmentEnter estimate into job cost control program and participate in turnover / transition meetings with the operations teamExperience with Fire Protection industry standards, including shop fabricationExperience in providing budgets, estimates, construction schedules, and manpower projectionsMust be able to meet critical deadlinesWork as part of a team and coordinate scope of work between in-house trades (Sprinkler, Sheet Metal, Electrical, etc.)Performs other duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibility : No
Required :
5+ years' experience in large fire protection construction projects or equivalent combination of education and experience1-2+ years' Estimating / Pre-Construction experienceDemonstrate knowledge and efficiency in fire protection hydraulic calculation softwareGeneral understanding of NFPA codes that relate to the Fire Protection industry. NFPA 13, 14, 20 and 24Understanding and capable of laying out Fire Protection systemsStrong technical writing and verbal communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Office SuiteMust be able to meet critical deadlinesMust be a self-starter, able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skillsMust adhere to all company policy and proceduresMust be available to work assigned schedulesThe work environment and physical demands required would be representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, and may include, but are not limited to the following :

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopier, filing cabinets and fax machines. Site visits will require walking through existing buildings, industrial plants and / or on-going construction sites. This will involve stairs and at times ladders on multiple floors / levels.Travel :
