Description
The Health Information Manager is a member of the Organizational Excellence division. The Manager will support the agency by creating workflows and enabling a comprehensive system to manage the retention, disclosure and destruction of health information in all forms across the organization. This individual will work with dotted line oversight of staff across CHD identified as responsible for HIM functions within their respective divisions and programs. This individual will also provide appropriate training to these individuals whose job duties require the handling, review, maintenance or release of PHI and PII. The coordinator will have a deep knowledge and understanding of federal as well as state laws and regulations related to management of Protected Health and Personally Identifiable Information such that compliance with such can be ensured.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work with leadership across CHD to comprehend and evaluate current workflows and roles related to health information management.
- Consults with internal stakeholders to develop and define and implement a centralized system of oversight for health information operations
- Serve as resource and educator to division leadership, clinical staff and HIM support staff who require in-depth knowledge of HIM and related legal and regulatory requirements
- Review and document all incoming requests from HIM support staff across CHD
- Monitor HIM support staff timely response to ROI
- Follow-up on delinquent items
- Ensure HIM/provider communication/feedback occurs timely, consistently, and in accordance with organization-wide
- Conduct regular audits of medical records to ensure compliance with documentation standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborates with other OE staff and others to conduct audits to ensure compliance with related regulations and internal policies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field Health Information Management, Health Informatics, or related field plus at least one year of experience in a healthcare setting.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a medical records
- Deep understanding of federal laws related to health information; HIPAA and Part 2 as well as familiarly with Massachusetts and Connecticut laws related to health information and privacy
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Highly developed ability to interact with diverse groups
- Willing and able to adapt to changes in work environment, procedures, priorities, and job duties
- Excellent customer service skills with appropriate sense of urgency and sensitivity to business needs
- Ability to function well within a cross-functional team setting and independently
- Demonstrated ability to complete assigned duties and responsibilities in an accurate, timely and efficient manner
- Must demonstrate integrity, sound judgment and demonstrated leadership skills
- Sensitivity to the needs of the individuals served.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a working vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in behavioral healthcare not for profit setting preferred
- RHIA or RHIT certification
- Proficient in electronic health record (EHR) systems (Netsmart products preferred but not required)
- Experience with accreditation bodies such as CARF or Joint Commission.
- Familiarity with clinical workflows in behavioral health settings.
