Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent / Some Trade School / 6 months to 2 years trade school certification and 4 years of fire alarm and / or security experience
- Minimum of 2 years of installation experience
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct visual inspection for wear and tear on all fire alarm devices to include fire alarm control panel, batteries, data gathering panel (DGPs), notification appliances, initiating devices, and remote annunciators as per Florida requirementsConduct mechanical testing on all applicable fire alarm devices as per Florida requirementsConduct test and response on all applicable fire alarm devices as per Florida requirementsSanitize all fire alarm devices for proper upkeep and maintenanceServe as lead technician on a small installation job, i.e. addition, by managing client relationship on site.Respond to service requestsRead and understand system status on Fire Alarm Control Panel (condition, address, device)Conduct diagnostic tests to determine cause of alarm and / or trouble system status, as well as ground faultsRequisition required parts when necessary to repair problemAdjust, replace, or repair defective device(s) to meet Florida requirementsConduct testing on all repaired devices as per Florida requirementsIdentify code issues and non-conformance issues, and make recommendations on alternative solutions to client / officeStudy blueprints and schematics and determine methods, materials, and equipment needed to complete assignmentTest electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters and voltmeters to ensure compatibility and safety of systemPerform technician routine maintenance on tools, test equipment, etc.Plan the layout of wiring systems; measure, cut, and bend wire conduitsThread conduit ends, connect couplings, and fabricate and secure conduit support bracketsDrill holes and pull or push wiring through openingsDig trenches or holes for installation of conduit or supportsStrip insulation from wire ends and attach wires to terminals for subsequent solderingInstall electrical and electronic control systems and insulated cablesAssemble and fabricate electrical and electronic components and appliancesConnect electrical power to sound and visual communication equipment, signaling devices, and heating and cooling systemsTest completion of circuits using test equipmentTest for, locate, and repair electrical malfunctions in wiring and partsPaint a variety of objects related to electrical functionsMaintain tools, vehicles, and equipment and keep parts and supplies in orderEnsure job site is left in a better state than when we startedCommunicate and coordinate with clients on job scope and with line manager and report on progress on a regular basisMaintain accurate records of all work performed, materials used, and communicate any problem encountered or identified with the alarm system on work orderGenerate system status reports upon completion of testing and inspectingMaintain positive client relations through professional interactions with clientsSkills and Knowledge
Full knowledge of fire alarm systems and operation, and fire alarm terminologiesAbility to interpret and apply blueprints, schematics and drawings, maintenance manuals, and assembly instructionsFamiliarity with all local electrical codes, i.e. Article 760 of National Electrical Code (NEC)Full knowledge of fire alarm products, EST products preferredStrong technical and analytical skills, i.e. diagnosing the cause of electrical breakdownsAbility to make recommendations on alternative solutions to client / officeAbility to function in a self-directed environmentEffective use of hand tools (meter, toner, etc.)Understanding of basic electronics and electrical theories and principles (Ohm’s Law, AC / DC, etc.)Ability to demonstrate the safe use of ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and related equipment requiredKnowledge of proper grounding and bonding methodsFamiliarity with electrical equipment and proper terminology, and an understanding of the dangers of live electricityAbility to make mathematical computations and color coding, and possess manual dexterityAcceptable report writing proceduresHigh Rise offers a variety of exciting career development opportunities within the organization.
