P osition Overview

The purpose of this position is to use flame, plasma or laser cutting equipment to create metal parts for internal and external customers or cut metal plate to size per customer specifications.

After completing 3-6 weeks of training on 1st shift, this will be a 3rd shift role, working Mon-Fri, from 11pm-7 : 30am.

E ssential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works to supply products and services that meet or exceed the customers’ expectations. Follows the documented quality systems and processes that are continually being improved to satisfy our customers’ needs
  • Ignite torches and use power supplies to cut steel per customer specifications.
  • Operate semi-automatic cutting equipment using natural gas, liquid oxygen and electrical current to cut metal per customer specifications.
  • Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with measuring tapes or calipers to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Ability to adjust program layout for minimum material waste when running multiple parts.
  • Secures material and transport loads to destination, using powered overhead crane or forklift, or signals crane or forklift operators to move load to destination.
  • Balance material picked up by overhead crane and guide to table, all while maneuvering around other material and obstacles.
  • Manually move small parts to designated areas, or use an overhead crane for larger parts.
  • May set up and operate power tools associated with fabricating shops, such as right-angle or die grinder.
  • Maintain a clean working environment free of debris and flammable material May assist Supervisor and other departments in other duties or special projects as needed.

  • Mechanical : Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Mathematics : Knowledge of arithmetic and its application.
  • Handling and Moving Objects : Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating materials.
  • Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment : Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Making Decisions and Solving Problems : Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Monitor Processes, Materials, or Surroundings : Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
  • Safety and Security : Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective safety for the protection of people and property.
  • Controlling Machines and Processes : Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.
  • Tools : Personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.), levels, die grinder, right-angle grinder, rasp files, mallets, calipers, tape measure, and bevel square.

This particular position requires the individual to have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED), some previous work-related experience, or a combination of education and experience.

The employee is frequently required to move and / or lift up to 50 pounds.
