JOB DESCRIPTION and RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for ensuring that the integrity of the financial statements and other financial documents for various properties is maintained.

Senior Property Accountant reports directly to the Property Accounting Manager.

Specific responsibilities include :

  • Review and approve monthly Financial Reports.
  • Train new accounting staff members and mentor Property Accountants
  • Assist with the preparation of Annual Operating and Capital Budgets, while working directly with Property Accountants and Property Managers.
  • Ensure accuracy of all general ledger information.
  • Review Balance Sheets and Income Statements per property to verify account balances and assess reasonableness of revenue and expense amounts.
  • Work with Property Accountants in the preparation of the annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM) reconciliations.
  • Work with Property Managers to establish accruals for the month
  • Monitor property month-end closes.
  • Oversee tenant billback process for excess utility charges, as well as vendor invoices paid on behalf of Tenant.
  • Assist with clients on Accounting / Lease Administration Business Development as needed.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports for management and clients
  • Review monthly account reconciliations

COMPETENCIES

  • Must work well together and in a professional team environment
  • Strong general ledger accounting
  • Proficient with CAM reconciliations
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Able to train and mentor others.
  • Works well in a matrixed and collaborative environment.
  • Ability to understand commercial lease language as it pertains to financial management of leases.
  • Works independently in a hybrid work environment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in commercial real estate, property management, facilities management, or equivalent.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Knowledge with property management software such as Yardi is required.

ALLOCATION OF TIME

  • Business Client Development 5%
  • Client / Project Work 85%
  • Administrative 10%

Overnight travel may be required up to 10%.
