Position Overview

Join us in supporting the development, advancement, and sustainment of weapon systems for the U.S. Space Force (USSF) and its partners. You will be part of a team experienced in environments including ground, near-space, and space systems, addressing strategic, operational, and tactical needs for the Department of Defense (DoD). QinetiQ works with USSF and DoD to design, develop, field, and maintain critical systems for national security and warfighter survivability.

We are seeking a Chief Space Engineer in Huntsville, AL. This role requires expertise in systems of systems engineering for highly classified space control, ground, and command and control (C2) systems, including concepts, development, build, and testing. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience providing space engineering and technical advice across the acquisition lifecycle, including reviewing and drafting JCIDS and related documentation such as Initial Capability Documents, Interface Control Documents, Capability Development and Requirements Documents, Technical Evaluations, and System Specifications, with knowledge of current government guidance. The position demands close collaboration with technical teams, stakeholders, and partners to ensure program success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide space acquisition, engineering, operations, and technical advice for projects supporting all acquisition lifecycle stages, including new and advanced C2 efforts.
  • Support acquisition efforts related to advanced technology, future concepts, and integration activities.
  • Offer operational engineering support to current and future units, including coordinating system-level test and integration activities.
  • Revise and draft JCIDS and acquisition documentation (e.g., ICDs, AoAs, CONOPs).
  • Monitor program schedules, acquisition implementation, report requirements shortfalls, and assess program status.
  • Recommend solutions for technical anomalies.
  • Develop, deliver, review, and evaluate impact analyses, audits, studies, compliance inspections, and readiness reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • Expertise in highly classified space control systems, including concepts, development, build, and testing.
  • Proven ability to mature technologies through all TRL levels.
  • Expertise in architecture and technical requirements development.
  • Deep knowledge of space situational awareness architecture and capability limitations.
  • Extensive experience in systems engineering and program management related to development, testing, and employment of information operations, space, and airborne systems.
  • Proficiency in space system design, development, integration, testing, and operations.
  • Knowledge of multiple space control technologies, such as optical sensors, radar, electronic support, signals intelligence, and communications.
  • Strong understanding of space control mission areas.
  • Ability to develop, update, and coordinate ACAT-like program documentation.
  • Experience in ground system design, development, integration, testing, and operations.
  • Ability to organize and conduct system-level technical design reviews and audits.
  • 20+ years of experience, with more than 7 in system of systems engineering.
  • TS / SCI clearance, willingness to undergo CI Polygraph; #qinetiqclearedjob.
