Job Summary :

Seeking CNC Lathe Machinist to be part of a production team located in the Houston manufacturing facility near Hobby Airport. Role is responsible for machining custom application metal components. Sets up, programs and operates CNC horizontal lathes to fabricate precision metallic parts by performing the following duties :

• Study / proofread CAD drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and set up requirements.
• Create and / or edit CNC programs to achieve dimensionally accurate fabrication, minimize production time and ensure safe machine operation
• Select / acquire all tooling needed before starting set up of each part
• Measure, mark and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining as necessary
• Select, align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines as necessary to machine parts as required
• Use 4-jaw chuck to secure parts and ensure tight tolerances
• Set tool offsets as required
• Verify conformance of finished workpiece to precise specifications and tolerances (often less than 0.001 inch), using micrometers, bore gauges, calipers, or other measuring and inspection tools as necessary.
• Debur and inspect finished part
• Submit finished part for QC inspection
• Perform routine maintenance tasks on machines as required to minimize unplanned machine downtime
• Confer with engineers, designers, production personnel, programmers or others to proactively identify and resolve machining or assembly problems.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, returning shared tooling to designated areas after use
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a collaborative manner with customers, co-workers, and management.
• Continue to grow lean knowledge and use the tools to identify and assist with continuous quality improvement.
• Participate in staff safety and schedule meetings, providing current and accurate workflow information and suggestions for productivity and quality improvement.
• Comply with company safe work practices.

Job Qualifications :

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. He / she must be a disciplined self-starter who understands tight deadlines and be willing to work overtime if required. Familiarity with mill and EDM machining processes is a plus in this role.

Education and / or Experience :

Math Skills :

Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts, including fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level and temperature in the work environment is usually moderate.

Other :

Strong understanding of machine shop safety is a must for this role. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsoring now or in the future.

Job Type : Full-time, 11 am – 8 pm, M-F, or Part-time, 3 pm - 8 pm, M-F

Pay Range : $25.00 - $32.00 per hour, based on skills and experience.
