About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

Profession : RN (Registered Nurse)

Shift : 12-Hour Nights

Hours per Shift : 36 hours per week

Experience : Minimum of 3 years

License : Current RN License (California)

Certifications : BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN-Advanced

Must-Have : Must be comfortable taking 2 patients

Description :

Unit has 12 labor and delivery beds and 6 triage beds.

Ratios are per guidelines (2 : 1).

Must be comfortable taking 2 patients.

Certifications required include BLS and ACLS (must be through AHA), NRP, and AWHONN-Advanced.

Current RN License is required.

Preferred documentation system experience is Cerner, but not required.

Additional equipment includes pagers linked to the call light system and internal phones.

Orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit.

Will meet with the educator for reviews to ensure accurate documentation.

No nurse aides are available, but OB techs assist with C-sections and baby care.

A charge nurse is available around the clock and does not take patients.

Shifts are 12 hours, from 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM.

Breaks include a 30-minute clock-out break and three 15-minute breaks per shift as per regulations.

Weekends are typically every other weekend, similar to permanent staff.

Scrubs are provided by the facility.

Telemetry is available post-surgery for one hour after C-sections.

Ventilator support is not applicable.

An IV team is not available.

Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24 / 7.

The unit handles high-risk patients, including multiple births (up to triplets).

Nurses will manage insulin drips, magnesium drips, and provide care during C-sections.

Recovery includes skin-to-skin contact after delivery.

It is necessary for nurses to have experience with C-sections.

The unit operates under many protocols to assist with care.

Orientation may include a few days on the unit.

All charting must be completed, as it does not follow an exception-only policy.

The unit is near a level 3, almost level 4 NICU, for high-risk deliveries.

Must be accustomed to a fast-paced, busy environment.

The unit delivers over 300 babies per month.

This is a closed unit; there is no floating.

Cancellation policy allows for hospital cancellations for up to 4 shifts during the assignment.

Charting system used is Cerner.

BSN degree is not required.

Consideration required for this position includes trauma level care within an acute division.

Nights and weekends will usually require first to float.

Required certifications include ACLS, Advanced Fetal Monitoring, BLS, and NRP.
