Instructional Coach

Under the supervision of the Building Principal, the Instructional Coach will support instruction by coaching and modeling instructional strategies, and by providing staff development to improve students overall academic performance. Additionally, this leadership role will include opportunities to facilitate relevant committee work, provide standards alignment materials for lesson planning, identifying supplemental intervention materials that best support standards, and working with building leadership to implement current school improvement action plans. This would include implementation of initiatives, knowledge, and ability to coach engagement strategies such as : GLAD, Project Based Learning, AVID, as well as support behavioral systems including PBIS, Restorative Practices, and Responsive Classroom.
Examples of Work Performed :
Coach teachers for Teaching and Learning with emphasis on effective implementation of strong instructional practices.
Maintain regular coaching cycles with teacher teams and individual teachers.
Support data team meetings by modeling questioning strategies regarding assessment information and instructional practice.
Coordinate with specialists (e.g., Title, SPED) to ensure students are receiving appropriate instruction.
Offer support to teachers working with advanced readers to comprehend complex texts (informative and narrative).
Provide coaching support to all teachers and interventionists.
Develop and support systems for job-embedded professional development.
Support appropriate classroom assessments by helping teachers to analyze their own student's data.
Collaboratively review school progress with district stakeholders in order to review systems, celebrate achievement and problem solve where appropriate.
Assists and coordinates assessments including MAPs, SBA, and IBA's.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Participate in and provide focused professional development to ensure :
Instructional strategy expertise.
Expertise in literacy and math assessments (of and for learning).
Expertise in Common Core State Standards : ELA and Math.
Expertise in all core and intervention materials on district inventory.
Observe instructional practices and provide feedback.
Minimum Requirements :
Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
Successful teaching experience.
Proficiency in business office software, databases, and schools software.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
Preferred Requirements :
A master's degree in education.
At least five years successful teaching experience.
Two years of experience in consulting and / or instructional coaching.
Experience facilitating and supporting implementation of NGSS and CCSS (Math and ELA).
Experience working with culturally, socially, and economically diverse students and parent / guardian populations.
Experience with systems change.
Experience and deep knowledge of NGSS and CCSS.
Project GLAD certificate preferred.
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
