Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services
This position reports to the Assistant AD for Compliance and is a member of the Senior Leadership team. The Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services is responsible for providing academic, vocational and personal support and advising to Student-Athletes in the Athletic Department within the guidelines of the University, Conference and NCAA rules.
The expectations of the Director of Academic Services :
- Maintain Student-Athlete records; comply with confidentiality and privacy guidelines of FERPA and HIPAA
- Assist coaches with eligibility / transcript evaluation and enrollment of potential Student-Athletes
- Guide Student-Athletes in choosing classes / majors in which they can be successful
- Assist Student-Athletes during registration process and coordinate classes with practice and competition schedules
- Conduct study tables, study skills workshops and Life Skills programming
- Coordinate a tutoring program for student-athletes
- Provide academic counseling and support systems to monitor the progress of all Student-Athletes
- Monitor adding and dropping courses to ensure eligibility and progress toward degree
- Monitor progress toward degree and communicate Academic Progress Rates (APR to coaches and administration
- Monitor and report class attendance and academic standings of Student-Athletes
- Act as liaison between faculty and student-athletes regarding travel schedules
- Work closely with the Registrar, the Assistant AD for Compliance, Faculty Athletic Representative and the coaching staff regarding academic status of Student-Athletes
- Perform academic needs assessment of Student-Athletes prior to each academic semester to identify high risk students
- Collaborate with Athletic and University support units to ensure Student-Athlete health, safety and wellbeing
- Demonstrate a commitment to academic success and social development of the Student-Athletes
- Monitor and report overall Graduation Success Rates of all teams
- Hire, supervise and develop Assistant Academic Advisors and Graduate Assistants and ensure their compliance with NCAA and Institutional rules
- Hold Student-Athletes accountable to behavioral, procedural and academic expectations detailed in the Student-Athlete handbook
- Maintain knowledge of, and compliance with, NCAA, OVC and institutional rules
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
- Bachelor's degree required / Master's preferred; minimum 3 years experience in collegiate setting working in academic services;
- Div. 1 setting preferred; Preferred experience providing academic, vocational and personal support and advising to student-athletes;
- Proven commitment to academic success and social development of student-athletes; Able to multi-task and communicate effectively in a team-oriented environment;
