Position DescriptionRole and Responsibilities
Learn Sanneh's organizational history, become familiar with core programs, activities, and major events.
Learn & support finance and operations teams with projects and tasks as assigned that relate to learning objectives.
Become familiar with the chart of accounts as it relates to organizational units and various program budgets. Learn and support Accounts Payable & Receivable.
Contribute to the development of program materials, such as presentations, financial reports, and board materials.
During this internship, the intern will have the opportunity to :
Practice the beginning fundamentals of finance and operations for a 100+ employee organization. Potential tasks include :
Google Suite's architecture
Facility logistics and planning
Building controls (BAC)
Policy review and implementation
Inventory controls
Financial policy review
Approved vendor management
Accounts Receivable and Payable support
Financial reporting
Employee lifecycle supports
Improve written and verbal communication skills through the creation of program materials and participation in meetings.
Gain exposure to the operations and culture of a dual-track nonprofit organization focused on social determinants of health.
Gain a comprehensive understanding of the program or project lifecycle within a nonprofit organization.
Observe basics of planning, marketing, and organization of community events that promote Sanneh’s programs, increase visibility, and attract stakeholders.
Collaborate with other programming team members and stakeholders to gather input and ensure program alignment with organizational goals.
Provide shadowing administrative support to other departments as needed.
Preferred Education & Qualifications
These are recommended, but each lifelong learning journey is unique. Life experiences and passion are just as important as formal training or education. We welcome intern applicants to apply even if they do not think they are qualified.
Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a business, finance, marketing, or nonprofit management program.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Presentations, Drive)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
A demonstrated interest in the mission of The Sanneh Foundation, business, finance, accounting, and / or operations and facility management.
Experience working with different cultures, religions and world views and students who speak or are learning Hmong, Karen, Somali, Arabic, and Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply.
Time Commitment :
This is a part-time internship with a duration of approximately 12 weeks. Common start and end dates for interns to align with Sanneh programming changes based on summer and school year needs include : January - May (Spring); June - August (Summer Intensive); September - December (Fall) or September - May (Academic School Year) The expected time commitment can be discussed and may be flexible based on the intern's availability and requirements of an academic institution or external program.
Compensation :
This is an unpaid internship, offering valuable learning experiences and the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful mission. The Sanneh Foundation is committed to supporting the academic success of our interns and will work closely with their academic institution to provide course credit when applicable.
