Special Education Teacher (SPED) Job Duties
Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to meet student needs
Adapt instructional materials and teaching methods to accommodate a variety of learning styles and abilities
Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and families to provide coordinated support
Deliver direct instruction in academic, behavioral, and social-emotional skills
Maintain accurate documentation and compliance with state and federal special education guidelines
Participate in IEP meetings, progress monitoring, and professional development activities
Federal and State Requirements
Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or related field
Active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement required
Strong understanding of IDEA and IEP processes
Excellent communication, organization, and classroom management skills
Must pass all required background checks and fingerprinting per district and state standards
