Overview

Medical Director, Cardiovascular Service Line

Step into a transformational leadership role where your expertise as a practicing physician will define the future of cardiovascular care in the Portland Metro region. This is a unique opportunity to dedicate 40% of your time to strategic administrative leadership and 60% to clinical practice as a physician in your specialty.

Legacy Health's Cardiovascular Service Line is poised for substantial growth, and we are seeking an influential leader to strategically position our programs in Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, and Vascular Surgery. We have a calling to capture the demand and elevate patient outcomes. This role isn't about maintaining the status quo; it's about leading meaningful change to create greater access, ensuring our programs thrive, and meeting the community's rapidly expanding needs.

Reporting directly to the Legacy Medical Group Chief Medical Officer, this is an opportunity to:

  • Drive Strategic Growth: Direct the strategic roadmap for cardiovascular services across all our hospitals.
  • Champion Excellence: Partner with a tenured administrative leadership dyad to enhance quality, operational efficiency, and patient experience.
  • Lead a Robust Team: Oversee medical directors for Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, and Vascular Surgery, leading a large team of 35+ cardiologists and surgeons, 30+ advanced practice providers.
  • Practice Your Passion: Ability to have up to 0.6 FTE clinical practice while leveraging a 0.4 FTE dedicated administrative role to shape the service line.

Responsibilities

Clinical Services Development:

  • Partners with leaders across Legacy Health to achieve growth strategies and targets in clinical services.
  • Oversee the development of short-term and long-term plans that set the vision and strategic direction of the service line in alignment with the strategic priorities of Legacy.
  • Identifies and helps implement the appropriate mix of service line services at each Legacy campus and recommends modification of services based on the understanding of community and organizational needs.
  • Develops services and care models necessary to optimize medical practices and medical services leading to optimal professional satisfaction and engagement among care providers.
  • Works to optimize the patient care experience including patients’ access to care.
  • Supports Legacy Medical Group in the recruitment, retention, and advancement of physicians and Advanced Practice Providers.
  • Helps build a physician and provider leadership pipeline and supports professional and personal development and succession planning.
  • Direct responsibility for employed physicians and/or oversight of contracted physician leaders.
  • Builds partnerships in care with independent physician groups.
  • Partners with Philanthropy to develop and implement a system wide philanthropic campaign.
  • Partners with Marketing to assist with activities related to the service line.
  • Participates in various external forums and serves as a representative of Legacy Health on the national front applying clinical experience and research in patient care improvement to leverage grant funding, national policy, etc.

Financial performance:

  • Sets metrics, monitors, and manages clinical productivity within the service line.
  • Partners as an effective stakeholder to help the system implement a comprehensive and state of the art IT/digital and analytics (including provider reporting) strategies for the service line.
  • Oversees the development of common performance measures, clinical protocols and improvement plans across the markets.
  • Promotes national best operational practice tactics to achieve objectives, evaluate impact and ROI, and review operational and administrative expenses.

Quality and Safety Assurance:

  • Collaborates with leaders across the system including Chief Medical Officers (CMO), Chief Quality Officer (CQO), and Department Medical Directors to standardize, align, and improve quality and safety metrics.
  • Responsible for patient safety and quality of care variation through use of evidence-based care guidelines and analytics to decrease use of low value tests and services, and to drive care to lowest cost appropriate venues.
  • Partners with other leaders to promote and champion an inclusive workplace culture.
  • Advances a culture of trust and partnership by fostering psychological safety,
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws/regulations, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
  • Creates an environment that supports the sharing of information and ideas within the within the service line and facilitates effective communication of the service line to all levels of the organization.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate from a four-year . medical school or the equivalent. Residency completed and Board Certified in a medical specialty within the service line. MBA or MHA preferred.

Skills: Strong clinical experience as a physician. High emotional intelligence with excellent interpersonal communication skills. Flexible and committed to the team concept with strong teambuilding skills. Demonstrates self-motivation and initiative. Accepts and respects diversity without judgement. Comfortable, able, and agile in a matrix reporting structure. Open to new ideas and experiences.

Experience: Minimum five or more years combined clinical and leadership experience, including responsibility for fiscal and medical staff management. Leadership experience in a large, advanced, complex health system is essential. Experience within an integrated care system that includes multiple hospitals. Proven track record in improving quality and safety in a complex health system required. Must be a leader champion of quality. Thorough knowledge and understanding of current trends in health care, including physician hospital relations, physician practice models, access issues, quality improvement processes, clinical information systems, and the implications of changing health care environment for medical credentialing are essential.

Licensure

Unrestricted license to practice medicine and active DEA in both Oregon and Washington. Active or courtesy member in good standing of medical staff for each hospital where physician provides services. Current ACLS from the American Heart Association.

Pay Range

USD $101.00 - USD $250.00 /Hr.
