Job descriptionWe have a variety of shifts open to our Assistants to best accommodate your needs. Full health care packages (medical, dental, vision), CE compensation, 401(k) retirement options, significant personal pet discounts, uniform allowance, and exciting career path / developmental training. Partnership with Penn Foster technician program. Compensation is based on experience & skill set. $18 - 21 / hr. Education & Experience High school or equivalent (required). Veterinary Experience 1 or more years. Pet+ER believes in a team-oriented approach to patient care. Our technicians have direct case oversight and management with our Emergency Clinicians. Senior technicians mentor and guide newer technicians and build them to a level of expertise. Our technicians work autonomously and think critically. We work hard to support a learning environment where technicians receive the support to pursue credentials and specialty credentials. Being a teaching hospital, we expect all of our employees to actively participate in training and learning throughout their employment. Pet+ER has recently undergone substantial growth and is looking for experienced and highly motivated veterinary technicians to join our fast-paced, state-of-the-art, 24-hour emergency and critical care team. Pet + E.R in Hunt Valley, MD is hiring a full- time experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our outstanding team!
Our Veterinary Assistant will be cross- trained to support our Client Care team on a regular basis!
The veterinary assistant is the veterinary technician’s primary medical support and works with the technician to complete all tasks requested by the veterinarian on duty.
The veterinary assistant directly assists the veterinarian with animal restraint and handling, basic medical tasks and routine client interactions.
They play a key role in assisting the technician with treatment of hospitalized pets.
The assistant also helps to maintain the hospital facility, by keeping it neat and clean.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Properly restrain animals.
- Obtain a thorough history from pet owner.
- Accurately measure and record each patient's weight and basic vitals (temp, pulse rate, and respiratory rate).
- Understand triage and follow hospital policies regarding critical patients.
- Using aseptic procedures, draw up injections for doctors or technicians to administer. Properly package and store samples as needed.
- Assist with routine exam room procedures.
- Monitor patients' behavior. Maintain a positive attitude, work well and collaboratively as a team. be able to work well under pressure.
- Ability to multitask and produce efficiently under a heavy workload.
- Assist in maintaining inventory and alert supervisor of items that are running low.
- Maintain adequate interdepartmental communications regarding patient care and client issues.
