Position Description

  • This role requires frequent travel across the U.S. Candidates may be "based" anywhere in the US.

Summary : The Site Safety Health Officer is responsible for the implementation of the project's safety and health plan and ensures compliance to that plan.

Essential Duties and Overall Responsibilities :

Prior to the commencement of work on any project phase, the Site Safety Health Officer :

  • Coordinates with project subcontractors and other site contractors those safety and health plan elements addressing worksite hazards to which employees of other contractors may be exposed
  • Prepares a detailed analysis of all hazards associated with each phase of work
  • Ensures that each employee entering the worksite has the skills and knowledge necessary to safely perform his or her assigned task through experience, training and, where required, certification
  • Performs training that includes an initial worksite safety and health orientation, phase specific training addressing foreseen hazards and control measures associated with each phase of work upon which the employee is active, and continued safety and health "tool box" training
  • 'Trains the trainer' - the SSHO ensures that all training is conducted by qualified personnel
  • Ensures that each employee shall receive an initial safety and health orientation prior to performing any work on the project worksite. The orientation shall include a detailed review of the contents of the approved project safety and health plan, including provisions for subsequent employee access to the plan
  • Reviews the approved hazard analysis for that phase with all employees on the affected work crew and provides training to ensure that all employees understand the potential hazards and the required protective measures
  • Annotates a copy of each phase's hazard analysis with the name, signature, and date of attendance of all workers who have attended this training
  • Provides advance notice to the Project Manager for all phase specific training sessions
  • Conducts further phase specific training sessions for new employees on the work crew, under changing site conditions, or at the discretion of the SSHO to reinforce project safety and health requirements
  • Enforces the Project Safety and Health Plan
  • Willingness and ability to perform other tasks as required
  • Supervisory Responsibilities : The Site Safety Health Officer supervises all safety efforts and initiatives on site and can direct compliance of all personnel.

    Position Requirements

    Qualifications : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and / or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    Education and / or Experience : Four years of training and related experience. Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company regulations. Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures essential.

    Mathematical Skills : The Site Safety Health Officer will be required to detect details and recognize errors in numbers or in written materials such as charts or tables on a constant basis.

    Reasoning Ability : The Site Safety Health Officer will be required to evaluate information and analyze problems logically to develop solutions on a constant basis.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : At least one of the following certifications are required : CSP, GSP, ASP, or CHST. In addition, your OSHA 500 must be current.

    OSHA 30, BCSP, and First Aid and CPR are required.
