GENERAL SUMMARY
The WFD Employment and Training Specialist delivers employment and training services to clients of the Nisqually Workforce Development program. This role involves developing curriculum and providing instruction on job readiness topics such as résumé writing, interview skills, job search, and retention strategies.
The Specialist monitors client progress in vocational and educational training, facilitates workshops, and coordinates employment placements including on-the-job training (OJT) and work experience (WEX). Accurate documentation of client participation and outcomes is essential.
This role requires maintaining confidentiality, ensuring the accuracy and security of records, and fostering positive relationships with employees, customers, and community members. Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with exceptional customer service, are essential. Regular attendance is required, and occasional evening or weekend hours may be necessary to meet project deadlines. A professional, well-groomed appearance is expected at all times.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are representative of the responsibilities assigned to this position. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.
- Develop individualized education, training, and employment plans based on client needs and goals.
- Advise Case Managers on client progress and participation.
- Maintain up-to-date case notes and client documentation.
- Design and deliver instruction to individuals or small groups with a focus on job readiness and retention (e.g., résumé writing, interview skills, dressing for success).
- Develop and facilitate orientation sessions and workforce training programs as needed.
- Prepare and maintain instructional materials, track and record client progress, participation, and outcomes.
- Assist clients with GED preparation, including pre-testing, study planning, and coordination of testing.
- Support clients in accessing and enrolling in post-secondary education and training programs.
- Assist clients with job search strategies, including application assistance and interview preparation.
- Stay informed about local employment and training opportunities; share leads with clients and Case Managers.
- Develop and facilitate job clubs and employment-focused workshops.
- Create and distribute promotional materials for employment and training events (e.g., flyers, posters).
- Develop On-the-Job Training (OJT) and Work Experience (WEX) opportunities, coordinate placements and monitor client progress.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the goals of the Workforce Development program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Education, Social Work, or related field, preferred with a minimum of one year experience providing employment and training services to adults with low-income, OR Associate degree in Education, Administration, Human Services, Social Work or related field with three (3) years' experience providing employment and training services to adults with low income, OR Consideration of a High School Diploma with a minimum five (5) years' experience providing employment and training services to adults with low-income.Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets the minimum requirements established by Nisqually Indian Tribes vehicle insurance provider.Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of the Nisqually Indian Tribe's history, customs, traditions, and ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity.Experience working with Federally Recognized Tribes.SUPERVISION

Knowledge :
Knowledge of Workforce Development policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.Understanding of vocational training, job placement, career counseling, and employment retention strategies.Familiarity with principles and methods for curriculum and training design tailored to adult learners, including instructional techniques and tools.Knowledge of human services, case management, and resources available to low-income and underserved populations.Awareness of confidentiality standards, client rights, and employment regulations relevant to workforce development programs.Knowledge of local job markets, employer needs, and educational / training opportunities in the region.Skills :
Ability to effectively deliver training sessions in areas such as resume writing, interviewing skills, and job search strategies.Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with clients, colleagues, and external partners.Proficiency in designing instructional materials and adapting content to meet diverse learning needs.Competency in maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential case notes and program records.Skilled in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant tools for communication and documentation.Ability to create flyers, posters, and promotional materials for events and services.Abilities :
Ability to establish trust and motivate clients from diverse backgrounds, including those facing employment barriers.Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities, track client progress, and meet deadlines.Flexibility to modify instructional methods and support based on individual learning styles and goals.High level of integrity in handling sensitive information and maintaining professional boundaries.Ability to self-manage tasks while contributing effectively to a team environment.Ability to assess client situations, develop customized employment / training plans, and resolve barriers to success.NSORNA Nisqually's Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act requires all individuals who have ever been convicted of a sex offense to register with our Public Safety Department.
