We are looking to hire a patient care tech. As a patient care tech at MercyOne, you will support the professional clinical staff by providing direct patient care and performing studies and tests as assigned. These duties may vary by shift or may be unit-specific. The schedule is 12-hour shifts; 7 : 00 am 7 : 30 pm; days.

General requirements include delivering assigned patient care and treatment as delegated by an RN or LPN. Performing or assisting patients with activities including personal hygiene, bathing, ambulation, transporting, range of motion exercises, dressing / undressing, feeding, changing bandages, elimination needs, and emptying drainage devices. Responding to patient calls and anticipating patient needs. Assuring patient safety and comfort through the use of safe patient handling techniques, regular rounding, environmental maintenance, equipment maintenance, and other appropriate safety measures. Calculating intake and output (excluding IVs). Measuring vital signs. Performing bedside blood glucose testing. Making entries to patient health records as consistent with scope of job duties and in compliance with company policy. Initiating or assisting with emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury). Performing post-mortem care. Setting up equipment and supplies for procedures. Preparing patients and rooms for procedures, admissions, and transfers. Discharging patients from system. Observing and reporting information regarding any change in physical / mental condition, behavior, or status of the patient to the nurse. Collecting and labeling specimens. Setting up, operating, and maintaining selected pieces of equipment.

Minimum qualifications include being 16 years of age. Proof of completion of mandatory reporter child and / or dependent adult abuse training within three (3) months of hire. American Heart Association basic life support (BLS) for healthcare providers certified within six (6) weeks of hire.
