Senior Producer Newsgathering Job at mediaget in Washington

The Senior Producer is responsible for leading team planning, field shoots, and post production efforts for stories assigned to them and their team. The content this team creates is specifically designed for platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other emerging digital platforms.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES Lead pre-production of assigned deployments

Setup interviews, coordinate logistics, conduct research on story, work with shooter on visual expectations

While in field communicate updates to manager or planning team

Work across digital teams to ensure that Planning, Engagement, and Audience Development departments are constantly up to speed on the production schedule

Facilitate or shoot and send social media material to office while on deployment

Screen internal and external pitches and commission story ideas to be shot by freelance video journalists or staff for content that can be used to engage with digital audiences across our platforms

Assign stories as directed by the Digital Newsgathering EP

Write scripts and social media copy to be used across various social networks for the assigned stories

Fact-check scripts

Champion field safety and ethical reporting practices

Coordinate field team travel logistics

Engage with audience on social media in professional manner while following network guidelines

Contribute editorially strong and creative ideas in meetings and discussions

Assess new information and react quickly to editorial developments

Carry out duties in line with Al Jazeera editorial guidelines and ethics

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Minimum of 7 years track record in journalism with increasing responsibility

Proven track record of field production and coordination

SKILLS Excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills

Good non-linear video editing

Outstanding ability to write and copy edit all digital content

Ability to produce lives in the field and monitoring teams in the field – via mobile and video / audio equipment

Ability to deploy breaking news situations

Ability to produce long and short news features

Must have a firm grasp on how to operate the latest video and audio field equipment

To have a broad understanding of current global news trends and issues

Excellent editorial judgment of global issues

A passion and commitment to the Al Jazeera spirit of journalism

Strong understanding of social media networks and online video consumption and audiences

Ability to independently manage high pressure, deadline driven projects.

Manage multiple tasks at the same time

Attention to detail is essential
