About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse

Profession : RN

Specialty : ICU

Duration : 13 weeks

Shift : 12-hour Nights, Every Other Weekend or up to 3 weekends per month if unit is busy. First to float to sister facility.

Hours per Shift : 36 hours per week

Experience : Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience. Experience must include either neuro or cardiovascular.

License : Required

Certifications : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Must-Have : RNs must be able to titrate drips.

Description :

Auto-offer based on clinical prescreen.

This position requires a full 3 years of recent ICU experience to be considered.

No exceptions will be made.

Experience must also include either neuro or cardiovascular experience.

The UNA Dysrhythmia Exam is required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance of a position.

Maximum attempts for the exam is 2.

There is a pass / fail simulation lab on Day 1 of orientation.

Common diagnoses / types of patients include level 1 trauma cases, falls, gunshot wounds, blunt trauma, motor vehicle accidents, and trauma patients over the age of 15.

Procedures include exploratory laparotomy, craniotomy, and specialty neuro-surgery cases.

Patients may present with cerebrovascular accident, status post-tissue plasminogen activator, COVID, sepsis, and acute respiratory distress syndrome.

RNs are required to titrate various drips such as Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Precedex, Morphine, Dilaudid, Ketamine, Rocuronium, Levophed, Vasopressin, Cardene, Labetalol, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin, and Insulin.

Charge Nurses do not take patients.

No nursing aides are assigned to this unit; they are only utilized as sitters and health unit secretaries.

Hospitalist or intensivist is in-house 24 / 7.

Respiratory therapy is present in the ICU 24 / 7.

Equipment used includes ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and other respiratory devices.

RNs are required to interpret their own telemetry strips using GE monitors.

Self-scheduling is allowed, but managers may need to balance shifts based on unit needs.

Weekend requirements include three weekend shifts in a four-week schedule.

Holiday requirements may allow for one holiday off in an assignment.

There are no additional call or standby shifts required.

Floating may occur to telemetry units with a nurse to patient ratio of 1 : 3 or 1 : 4 as needed.

Scrub color is navy.

Unit / department-specific orientation generally lasts 1-2 days.

Skills for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices will be validated as needed.

Expectations include floating between multiple ICU units.

Cancellation policy allows the hospital to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment, and 3 shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks.

Charting is done using Cerner.

BSN is not required.

Trauma level is 1.

Care setting is acute.

Division is nursing.

Shift notes indicate EOW or up to 3 weekends per month if the unit is busy, and first to float to a sister facility.

Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS.
