Experience :

  • 12 months of role experience is required with some in the last 12 months.
  • Preferred 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.
  • Experience with Epic is preferred from any number of months.
  • Experience with Cerner is preferred from any number of months.

Requirements :

  • Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).
  • This role will require floating to multiple units
  • Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >

    • 60 miles from facility to be submitted.

  • Flu vaccination required for submission. Religious and medical declinations accepted.
  • 6 months between Staff at Program : SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB

  • Skills required : At least 1 year of trauma / surgical experience. Wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration / documentation and escalations

    • 5 South Neuroscience

  • Beds : 33
  • Patient Types : CVA, TBI, Seizure, AMS, Spinal Fusion, Craniotomy, Degenerative Diseases, post trauma, angiogram
  • Patient Ratios : 1 : 5-6

    • Skills required : IV start, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, Colostomy / Ostomy, Wound Care, Chest tube, Surgical Site Care, C-Collar, Abdominal Binders, Restraints

    5 North MedSurg / Oncology : chemo experience high preferred

  • Beds : 39
  • Patient Types : All patient types except stroke and MI, palliative care, ETOH withdrawal. MS / Oncology patients
  • 1 : 6 for RN and LPNs
  • Skills required : Trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foleys, IV starts; Chemo administration, if certified.
  • Tele monitoring on hallway monitors and by tele techs on ground floor

    • 4 South Clinical Decision Unit

    Beds : 18

    Patient Types : General MedSurg

    COPD, CHF, Diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-Diff, COVID, Pneumonia, Renal Failure, Sepsis, UTI, End of Life Comfort

    Patient Ratios : 1 : 5-6

    Skills required : Assessment, prioritization, communication and documentation skills.

    Tracheotomy care, Suctioning, O2 Therapy, ostomy care, Foley care, External catheter care, PEG / NGT care and use, wound care, chest tube, central line care, pressure ulcer management / preventive measures, falls prevention management, restraints.

    3 South Orthopedics

  • Beds : 20
  • Patient Types : Orthopedic and spine : Joint replacements, fractures, fusions, laminectomies, etc.
  • Patient Ratios : 1 : 5; 1 : 6 if medsurg

    • Skills required : PCA pumps, wound care (negative pressure dressing), dressing changes, foley, drains (hemovacs / JP drains)

    3 North MS / Ortho / Urology

  • Beds : 23
  • Patient Types : Urology, ENT, ortho, MedSurg
  • Patient Ratios : 1-5 : 6
  • Skills Required : Trach, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, CVL dressing changes, follow nurse-driven foley protocol.

    • Special Requests :

  • No RTO will be approved during the following dates :
  • Thanksgiving : 11 / 26 - 11 / 30
  • Christmas / New Year's : 12 / 21 - 1 / 1

    • Shift & Scheduling :

  • Shift Start Time : 7 : 00
  • Weekend rotation : Every other or 4 weekend days per month, No On Call
  • Holiday Expectations : One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
  • Holiday Expectations : This does not mean they will automatically be scheduled for those dates, but we will not contractually guarantee to being off prior to arrival.

    • Floating Requirements : Any like unit / patient location (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER / MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER / ICU holds)

    10 days maximum time off.
