Supervisor for Training Department

Job Description

Supervises / coordinates daily operations / functions of the training department at the training site. Instructs mandatory, elective, special training courses. Researches and develops / updates lesson plans, training aids, manuals, tests, and evaluation instruments to comply with agency policy, ACA standards, and state / federal law. Maintains accurate and up-to-date filing, tracking system for employee training records. Provides remedial instruction and testing for uniform and non-uniformed staff who have failed a course of instruction. Monitors employee CLEE certification cycle, submits employee's CLEE extensions and exceptions, and notifies institutional management team of employee's training status. Assists new hires with on-boarding, institutional orientation, and agency orientation. Develops Institution's annual training plan. Assists institution as needed. Assists training academy staff with range, (OJT), scenario, and specialized classes. Serves as a member of the institution's training advisory council and assists with retention. Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements : A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements : Three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience. A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year). Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
