About Our School :Excelsior Classical Academy is a tuition-free public charter school with a rigorous, college-preparatory, liberal arts focus based on the classical Trivium of Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric, the first three liberal arts. Excelsior Classical Academy is accepting applications for a Grammar School (K-5) EC teacher to begin immediately or in the 2024-25 school year. Excelsior welcomes applicants who will build relationships with their students, hold high academic and behavioral expectations, promote a growth mindset, and make every child feel safe and welcome.
- All candidates must have a Bachelors degree or higher and certification (or the ability to obtain certification) in Exceptional Children's education.
Our ideal candidate also has the following qualities :
- Understanding of and dedication to our mission, philosophy, and curriculum;
- Strong work ethic and responsible work habits;
- Experience creating, implementing, and reviewing IEPs and 504 plans;
- Familiarity with the ECATS system;
- Strong data collection and analysis skills;
- Eagerness to collaborate with regular education teachers, fellow EC teachers, and other service providers;
- Desire to create strong, mutually respectful relationships with students and their families.
Salary is commensurate with experience. Possession of or eligibility for a North Carolina EC Teaching Certificate is required.

- Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs
- Provide instruction in various subjects, including math, reading, and science, tailored to the individual needs of each student as well as instruction using the Extended Content Standards.
- Utilize specialized teaching techniques and strategies to support students with diverse learning needs
- Collaborate with other educators, parents, and support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly
- Implement behavior management strategies to promote a positive classroom environment
- Use assistive technology and learning tools to enhance student engagement and facilitate learning
- Provide support and guidance to students in developing social skills and fostering independence
- Qualifications
- Experience working with students with special needs, especially with grammar school students (K-5) in self-contained classrooms.
- Knowledge of behavioral therapy techniques and strategies
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with parents, colleagues, and support staff
- Ability to manage a classroom effectively and maintain a positive learning environment
- Proficiency in using learning technology and assistive devices for special education students
- Passion for educating and supporting students with Autism and with Multiple Disabilities
