Job description

General Summary

To observe and monitor the condition of patients admitted to the hospital under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN)

1. Remain at the bedside of assigned patient at all times unless relived by an appropriate staff member.

2. Assists in calming and / or reorienting the patient in case of agitation environment and reports as appropriate.

3. Remove visible hazards and / or broken equipment from immediate environment and reports as appropriate.

4. Maintains visual observation at all times with no distractions.

5. Provides prompt notification to care team if patient requires assistance.

6. Monitors and maintains patient environmental safety and notifies the care team if any hazards are discovered.

7. Performs care checks in accordance with care plan.

8. Follow appropriate policies and procedures.

9. Obtain verbal report from the RN to include information regarding the patient’s, identified care needs, diagnosis, visual, auditory, or language barriers, as well as any special considerations.

10. Receive direction from the Nurse Manager and RN regarding : what to report, to whom and how.
