Health - Housekeeping Technician

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Housekeeper, under the direction of Administrative Assistant, is responsible for a wide range of heavy cleaning tasks in an ambulatory health care setting that maintain a clean, sanitized and presentable environment throughout the Sault Tribe Health and Human Services, Munising.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : (includes, but is not limited to, the following)

Cleans, disinfects and ensures infectious control cleaning is performed for all patient care areas including medical exam rooms and dental operations areas.

Removes trash regularly from the facility.

Maintains the carpet and tile floors of the facility; sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, stripping and waxing floors.

Cleans and disinfects public and employee restrooms of the facility.

Cleans public areas such as hallways and waiting areas which include walls, vents, windows, rugs etc.

Removes and properly disposes of biohazard medical waste.

Cleans staff offices to include dusting vacuuming sweeping and cleaning high touch items like phones and door handles.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES : (includes, but is not limited to, the following)

Assists in facility security as needed.

Attends trainings and meetings as required.

All other job-related duties as assigned.

CONTACTS :

Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor / manager, managers in other departments, executives, customers and outside vendors / service providers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Position medium with lifting of 50 pounds maximum and frequent lifting / carrying up to 25 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of near / midrange vision, frequent standing, walking, manual handling, use of hearing, smell, depth perception, color / field of vision, bending; sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, use of far vision and typing and occasional travel. Working conditions include occasional exposure to weather, extreme heat / cold, wet / humidity, and noise and air quality. Potential hazards include frequent patient contact and exposure to needles / syringes and occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, chemicals, infectious exposure, computer use and equipment.

REQUIREMENTS :

Education : High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience : One year of general housekeeping experience preferred.

Certification / License : Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must maintain good moral character standing. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting in a healthcare setting preferred. Knowledge of the use of floor maintenance and cleaning equipment preferred. Knowledge of hard tile floor maintenance equipment and chemicals for stripping waxing floors preferred. Knowledge of bloodborne pathogens and handling bio hazard medical waste preferred. Knowledge of safety practices when utilizing maintenance equipment and while cleaning in a health care setting preferred. Ability to use power floor maintenance equipment preferred. Must be able to thoroughly clean and disinfect medical dental and other medically related treatment areas. Must have good customer service skills. Must be able to establish and maintain effective communication with co-workers, supervisors and the general public. Must be flexible and available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays. Must be able to travel occasionally for trainings and meetings. Must maintain confidentiality.  Native American preferred.
