About The Position

Experience : Minimum of 2 years in Pediatric Oncology / Hematology; Bone Marrow Transplant experience is highly preferred

License : Current RN License

Certifications : BLS, PALS, APHON provider card

Must-Have :

• Port access experience
• Chemotherapy administration
• Blood product transfusion
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Comfortability with blood cultures and central line care
• PCA pumps and Heparin gtt experience

Description :

The Pediatric Oncology / Hematology unit consists of 24 beds, with 16 dedicated to Hematology / Oncology and 8 for Bone Marrow Transplant.

The average daily census is roughly 22 patients.

Nurses work interchangeably across the unit, providing comprehensive care to highly acute patient populations, including Bone Marrow Transplant patients.

Patients seen range from neonates to adults who previously received childhood cancer treatment.

Common diagnoses include solid tumor cancers, leukemia, sickle cell anemia, and aplastic anemia.

The unit also accommodates pediatric behavioral health patients with various diagnoses, including adjustment disorders and suicidal ideation.

Nurse-to-patient ratios depend on acuity, with a typical ratio of 1 : 3 for Hematology / Oncology and 1 : 1-2 for Bone Marrow Transplant cases.

Support staff includes a free-floating Charge RN / Supervisor, unit educators, task RNs, and a dedicated security team.

Technological support includes EPIC for electronic medical records and Alaris for IV pumps.

Applicants must be team players who take initiative and demonstrate the required skill sets for effective patient care.
