Position description
Manage to companys expectations while directly engaging in all pillar continuous improvement and WCM initiatives. The Health and Safety Manager provides leadership and guidance for all employees to continuously improve plant safety and health metrics to world-class levels by engaging and interacting with all employees at the Norwood Granule and Roofing Plants.
This position reports directly to the Plant Manager and is a key member of the operations team.
- Promote Saint-Gobains HS policies and ensure compliance with all pertinent regulations that apply to the site operations
- Ensure compliance to OSHA Silica standards for general industry is applied to employee exposures in the Granule plant operations
- A commitment to implement and carry out company policies and procedures is required
- Implement all Saint Gobain HS initiatives as well as the sites health and safety management system s for 130 plus hourly and salaried skilled employees
- Assists in identification, analysis, and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of professional knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Acts as an advisor for all health and safety initiatives revolving around plant projects, new tasks, and operations
- Facilitates inspection, of the two facilities to detect existing or potential accidents and health hazards, and recommends corrective or preventive measures where appropriate
- Research and coordinate all communications with regulatory agencies pertaining to health and safety issues
- Manage health monitoring and records of hazard exposure per OSHA requirements
- Investigate any safety-related incident to ensure prompt and effective root cause / corrective actions
- Coordinate and conduct training for facility personnel as it pertains to H &S matters
- Responsible for all contractors training and associated permits and audits
- Supports all production shifts and employees as required
- Implement Lean / WCM principles and initiatives as required including daily, weekly, monthly and annual routines to track and improve on key Health and Safety KPIs as identified through cost and loss deployment
- Lead the 5S initiative throughout the facility
- Chair on the plants Safety Committee
- Maintain professional certifications necessary to complete some tasks
- Must be a self-starter and be able to function in a team-oriented atmosphere while working independently
- Successful candidate must exhibit model behavior as related to site HS policies and practices
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Health, and Safety or similar discipline
- Seven (7) or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated management experience in effective implementation of health and safety programs
- Strong Health and Safety management for all levels of employees
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills throughout the organization
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations
- Must be able to effectively use Microsoft Office including Excel / Word / Powerpoint
