Medical Assistant Position

AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide patient care and support within the ambulatory setting. The Medical Assistant will accurately complete patient interviews, collect specimens, assist the physician with patient exams, maintain departmental inventory, provide patient education, and ensure quality direct patient care and non-professional services as directed by the Physician.

The position also includes phlebotomy for diagnostic studies, CLIA waived testing, EKGs, and drug and alcohol testing. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation. As part of the Virtualist Program, this position is responsible for collecting patient intakes remotely and assisting in telehealth visits as directed by the physician.

Qualifications

Education : High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of a Medical Assistant program required.

License / Certification : Certification in Phlebotomy ASCP preferred. BLSHCP certified within six months of hire or transfer. Must be a graduate of a post-secondary Medical Assistance program accredited by a national acceding agency, with a minimum of 330 hours of instruction, with special training around medication administration as per the NJ Board of Medical Examiners required. All Certified Medical Assistants must maintain active National Certification with a certifying agency approved by NJ.

Experience : 1-3 years of prior experience in Ambulatory care preferred. Able to handle high volume of interactions with frequent interruptions required. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.

Work Environment

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the medical office environment, blood borne pathogens, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position requires considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, and walking. This position also requires long periods of telephone work. This position frequently lifts 25-50 lbs and occasionally lifts 50-100 lbs. Periodic traveling to other department locations is expected.
