Job description

THE POSITION

Join Washington County's Community Corrections Center as a variable hour Community Correction Specialist I! Both bilingual and non-bilingual individuals are encouraged to apply. This position offers a flexible schedule and is a perfect way to gain experience working in the Community Corrections field! Individuals in this position can work up to 20 hours a week (must be at least 21 years of age).

The Opportunity

Washington County's Community Corrections Center is a 24-hour, 7-days per week minimum security facility. This 215-bed facility provides justice involved adults with a structured living environment, while focusing on accountability, employment, and skill-building. As a Community Corrections Specialist I, your responsibilities include monitoring the daily activities of justice involved adults (residents); maintaining security; coordinating the activities of residents; and making certain residents follow the facility regulations or procedures as well as interact with residents by providing information and assistance. This position works within a facility operating 24 hour per day, 7 days per week.

How Scheduling works :

  • Each month, by the 10th, you will give your availability for the following month.
  • There are 3 shifts available, each 8 hours in length (Day, swing, night).
  • You will provide at least 10 shifts you are available to work the following month. This could be a combination of day, swing, and night shifts.
  • All on-call staff m

ust be available to work 2 night shifts a month.

Shift Differential

Employees working 7 : 00am - 3 : 30pm (Day Shift) receive base pay; employees working 3 : 00pm - 11 : 30pm (Swing Shift) receive one dollar ($1.00) per hour shift differential; employees working 11 : 00pm - 7 : 30am (Night Shift) receive one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50) shift differential per hour.

This position is at-will and will accrue sick time, however, this position is not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience :

  • One (1) year of college coursework. Education must include some coursework in correctional studies, the social and behavioral sciences, or a related field to be qualifying; OR
  • One (1) year of experience in a correctional or residential treatment facility for juvenile or adult offenders.

    ADDITIONAL LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to pass a post-offer comprehensive background investigation.
  • Must be able to pass a post-offer psychological assessment.

    Be at least 21 years of age.

    Possess a valid Oregon State Class C driver's license and acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.

    Obtain and maintain first aid / AED / CPR certification.

    Must be able to pass a post-offer physical abilities assessment prior to appointment.

    Selection Process :

  • Conditional Offer : Human Resources will extend a conditional offer to our top candidate(s). Successful completion of the following is required to be appointed to the position.
  • Background Investigation : The selected candidate for this position must be able to pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the Community Corrections Department. The background Investigation for this position typically take 6-8 weeks to complete so you will want to plan accordingly. The information that will be required when you complete the Personal History Statement includes, but is not limited to :

    Employment Information (past 10 years or back to age 17)

    Education (A copy of any degrees, diplomas, and transcripts will be requested)

    Military Service (A copy of DD-214 will be requested)

    Residential Information (The past 10 years or back to age 17)
