Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Multi-State Payroll & Tax Specialist to manage payroll operations and ensure tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions. This role requires expertise in payroll systems, federal and state regulations, and the ability to support employees and cross-functional teams with accuracy and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Process payroll across multiple states on a bi-weekly or weekly basis, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance
- Maintain payroll records including hires, terminations, wage changes, garnishments, and benefit deductions
- Ensure tax compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including proper withholding, reporting, and remittance
- Prepare and file tax documents such as W-2s, 1099s, and quarterly or annual payroll tax returns
- Monitor legislative changes and update payroll systems accordingly
- Reconcile payroll and tax accounts and resolve discrepancies with internal teams and tax authorities
- Support audits and compliance reviews in collaboration with HR, Finance, and external auditors
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and payroll policies Generate reports on payroll, labor costs, and tax liabilities for management
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field preferredThree to five years of payroll experience, including two or more years managing multi-state payroll and tax complianceStrong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulationsExperience with systems such as ADP, Paylocity, Workday, or Ceridian Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting toolsExceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and deadline managementStrong communication and problem-solving abilitiesCPP or FPC certification is a plusAnalytical thinking and accuracyConfidentiality and integrityHigh-volume payroll managementAdaptability to changing regulationsCustomer service orientationMust be located local to the Corporate branchBenefits
