Overview
A privately held real estate investment and asset management firm is seeking a Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations. The company specializes in acquiring and managing multi-tenant industrial assets across the U.S., with a growing portfolio totaling over 4 million square feet.
This role is ideal for a finance professional with a strong foundation in commercial real estate who excels in an entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee accounting for multiple entities, ensuring accuracy and timely financial reporting.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements under GAAP.
- Manage month-end close, cash flow, and intercompany reconciliations.
- Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and lender compliance reporting.
- Enhance and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
Investment & Fund Accounting
Manage investor capital accounting, including capital calls, distributions, and waterfall calculations.Track ownership allocations and fund-level performance metrics.Prepare investor reporting packages and support limited partner communications.Collaborate with fund administrators, tax advisors, and legal teams.Operations & Systems
Optimize accounting systems (MRI, QuickBooks, etc.) for scalability and data accuracy.Oversee banking relationships and ensure compliance with debt covenants.Supervise accounting staff and external resources.Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and forecasting accuracy.Strategic & Transactional Support
Partner with leadership on financial analysis, due diligence, and transaction structuring.Support budgeting, forecasting, refinancing, and property disposition activities.Develop portfolio-level performance dashboards and deliver actionable financial insights.Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior finance leadership role.Strong background in real estate and commercial property operations.Deep understanding of multi-entity consolidations and investment waterfall models.Proficiency in Excel and financial modeling.Compensation & Benefits
