SUMMARY
The Barback ensures the bar runs smoothly by supporting bartenders with prep, restocking, organization, and cleanliness throughout service. This role is responsible for maintaining all bar mise en place, assisting with ingredient preparation, managing back-bar organization, and ensuring that bartenders have everything they need for fast, accurate, and consistent execution.
Barbacks move with urgency and awareness, maintaining a clean, efficient bar environment while delivering warm, professional support to the entire FOH team.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Bar Prep & Mise en Place
Restock all bar items before, during, and after service (ice, glassware, garnishes, juices, syrups, spirits, beer, wine, NA items).Assist with daily juicing, batching, syrup production, garnish prep, and bar setup.Maintain par levels and communicate shortages to bartenders or managers.Ensure all tools, equipment, and ingredients are ready and in place before service.Service Support
Keep bartenders stocked with ice, glassware, clean tools, and all needed ingredients.Maintain garbage, compost, and recycling throughout service.Polish glassware and restock clean items in designated areas.Help maintain service flow by anticipating needs and staying ahead of the pace.Assist with running beverages to the dining room during peak periods.Cleanliness & Organization
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary bar environment at all times.Clean spills immediately, wipe surfaces consistently, and keep floors safe and dry.Break down and deep clean wells, shelves, mats, sinks, railings, and fridges as assigned.Maintain proper labeling, dating, and storage of all bar-prepped items (FIFO standards).Inventory, Stock & Back-of-House Support
Organize and rotate stock in the liquor room, wine storage, and walk-ins.Support weekly bar inventory by counting and recording items as assigned.Assist with beverage deliveries, including lifting, breaking down boxes, and storing items properly.Teamwork & Communication
Coordinate with bartenders to prioritize tasks during high-volume service.Support servers and runners with water service, NA beverages, and bar-related guest needs.Attend pre-shift meetings and contribute to a positive team environment.Physical Requirements
Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (cases, kegs, ice bins, etc.)Stand and walk for prolonged periods (8–10 hours).Move quickly and safely in tight, fast-paced environments.Work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.QUALIFICATIONS
Previous barback or BOH / FOH support experience preferred but not required.Ability to stay organized and maintain composure in a busy environment.Strong communication skills and willingness to take direction.Interest in learning cocktails, spirits, wine, and beverage systems.Alignment with Ama’s values of equity, sustainability, community, and hospitality.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Hourly Rate
Tipped position, paid in accordance with Massachusetts Tip Law and the restaurant’s payroll schedule.
Paid Time Off
