The VP, Controller is a key member of the Finance organization and is responsible for overseeing all facets of financial operations, including the monthly close cycle, consolidation reporting activities, external audit, taxes, internal controls, technical accounting, and policy development and implementation. The VP Controller will directly supervise 2 employee and also work closely with and have indirect supervision responsibilities to site Controllers. The position will require occasional travel to production sites.
Candidate Profile
This individual will be able to manage processes and systems to achieve an effective environment of financial controls that is supportive of the overall business. The ideal candidate will be hands‑on and have demonstrated the ability to design, communicate, and manage financial reporting processes at the parent company and its subsidiaries. Reporting to the CFO, the VP, Controller will interface with all members of the company’s leadership team and with all company functional areas, including manufacturing, IT, and business development, as well as with others. She or he will be energized by the opportunity to understand the overall business and help the company achieve broader strategic business objectives.
Responsibilities
As a key member of the Finance leadership team, this person will be responsible for all aspects of our company accounting close process including consolidation and financial statement preparation. This person will oversee other specialists in the finance team as needed. The VP Controller will work closely with the Company’s outside auditors and tax professionals as well as the internal operational teams to refine and support an effective environment of financial reporting and controls. Duties include :
- Manage timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial accounting results through the close and consolidation process.
- Lead the relationship with our independent auditors; manage and lead the annual audit
- Candidate should possess strong understanding of consolidation and financial statement reporting
- Oversee collaborations and revenue accounting, including ASC606 analyses and entries, periodic true‑up procedures, supporting auditor review, and communicating with interested parties
- Develop, maintain, and enforce technical accounting policies and procedures in accordance with US GAAP
- Lead analysis of technical accounting issues : Provide well‑supported and documented interpretation of GAAP, identify relevant changes in accounting guidance, and monitor processes for compliance with accounting literature.
- Recommend accounting treatment for business development transactions, including projects with customers
- Oversee tax professionals including tax return preparation and provision calculations.
- Oversee compliance and filings for all areas of tax, including corporate income tax
- Manage, mentor, and develop a high performing, professional team.
- Help to set a “tone at the top” that stresses ethics, integrity, and good governance.
- Provide staff leadership and training
- Support company team leaders in all accounting related support
Professional Experience / Qualifications
CPA with Big 4 accounting experienceExperience working with private equity groups7+ years Controller experience7+ years of experience in financial statement preparation and reporting.
