The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Specialist, Nationwide Health Promotions. Working as a member of the Health Promotion & Education department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission : to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy.

The person in this role will collaborate with team on the design, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of evidence-based initiatives to ensure the delivery of comprehensive lung health programing to key communities throughout the United States with prevalence of disease especially among disparately affected communities.

Engage key stakeholders and / or subcontractors contributing to initiative deliverables. All assigned project are implemented as outlined in the grant workplan.

This is a grant-funded position.

Location :

If near an office location, this role will be a combination of in-person and virtual work. We are also considering remote applicants and encourage candidates in any location in the Southwest (AZ, NV, UT, NM, KS) to apply.

Responsibilities :

  • Fulfill deliverables by completing assigned work plan projects that address the needs of the identified population utilizing evidence-based programs.
  • Coordinate continuing education process as needed for respiratory therapists, nurses, and pharmacists for existing and new programs.
  • Recruit potential facilitators and participants for evidence-base behavior modification programs.
  • Assist in coordination of train-the-trainer workshops.
  • Conduct community outreach to build a network of partners and champions who will support initiatives.
  • Provide direct technical assistance to identified communities and partners.
  • Evaluate current programs and develop a plan for growth and new opportunities.
  • Build infrastructure, guidelines, assets etc. for new and growing initiatives.
  • Deliver high quality results ensuring key performance measures / data collection activities and reporting requirements can be provided to funder.
  • Assist with compilation of program outcomes enabling dissemination of surveillance / evaluation findings at statewide and national meetings as needed.
  • Collaborate with other key staff members, partners, and organizations.
  • Serve on ALA’s regional and national workgroups and committees as requested.
  • Contribute to reports required by the association and funding sources, including but not limited to weekly updates in the American Lung Association’s (ALA) database, grant reports and program metrics reports.
  • Represent the association as a member of community, civic and / or health coalitions and organizations related to the ALA’s mission.
  • Build, maintain and cultivate relationships with funders, facilitators, and community partners to encourage program delivery, sustainability, and growth in service territory, including ALA signature programs where applicable.
  • Select and participate in local, state, and national seminars and courses designed to increase skills and knowledge related to job requirements.
  • Participate in and support all area events and perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in public health or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience developing and implementing community awareness, education, and programs specifically related to areas of public health.
  • Prior experience in public health, community relations, public policy, and / or advocacy.
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Required to travel periodically for meetings and conferences.
  • Ability to lift approximately 25 lbs.
  • Able to work with minimum direct supervision, make decisions, and take initiative.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and steward relationships across a diverse population.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license and your own reliable transportation with the ability to travel within assigned area 10% of the time for meetings and conferences, as well as the flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required
  • Required to travel statewide for providing technical assistance, meetings and conferences as required by assigned grants.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Compensation : Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The target hiring range for this position is between $45,500 and $48,000 per annum.

Paid Leave - 10 vacation days in the first year (15 days thereafter), 2 personal days and 15 sick days per year, as well as 12 company-paid holidays per year.
