Job Description The Senior Tax Manager is responsible for providing tax and consulting services to business clients with pass through entities and to their business owners.
Responsibilities
- Performs tax planning, preparation and research for pass through entities (S-corps, LLCs, Partnerships) and the business owners’ individual returns, which may include estates, trusts and charitable entities
- Manages client engagements, supervises and reviews work of team staff members, works closely with clients as well as internal managers and partners
- Contributes to client satisfaction by providing timely services and work product
- Demonstrates an understanding of tax concepts and actively pursuing increased tax knowledge through client assignments and current tax developments
- Tax Compliance : Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities, while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and self and client service teams comply with Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM)
- Significant knowledge of taxation related to personal income, estate and gift tax and wealth retention strategies, as well as taxation of entities owned by business owners (partnership and corporate taxation)
- Conducts top level review of tax returns and resolves all tax issues with client; involves specialists where appropriate
- Plans and reviews the tax process and procedures to be performed (budgeting and staffing; monitoring engagement process and actual time vs. budget with assistance of Senior; timely billing and A / R collection; client relationship management; provides timely advice)
- Research : Identifies when research is needed, frames issues, conducts research, and reports analysis; applies firm standards for preparation of WTA and tax returns; involves firm specialists as appropriate
- Strategy Development : Develops ideas to improve client position, reviews studies of tax implications, identifies lessons learned and suggests process improvements
- Other duties as required
Supervisory Responsibilities
Builds and leads a team of professionals for high net worth clients; supervises associates and senior associatesReviews work and provides feedback; trains on software tools; acts as a Career Advisor; schedules and manages workloadProvides verbal and written performance feedback to associates and senior associatesEducation & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required (Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred)Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation preferredExperience
Eight (8) or more years of relevant tax experience and / or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting / professional services; experience with individual, estate, trust, partnership, S-corp, and private foundation tax / consulting clients requiredPrior supervisory experience requiredLicenses / Certifications
CPA, Attorney (admitted in U.S. jurisdiction) or Enrolled Agent (or equivalent) requiredOther professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role preferredSoftware
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (preferred)Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
