Position Summary

After field training, deputies with the Walworth County Sheriff's Office are assigned to one of three 8.25 hour shifts within the Patrol Division on a rotating schedule, working 5 days on / 2 days off, 5 days on / 3 days off to provide 24-hour per day, 7-day per week service. The Sheriff's Office offers a robust training program with lots of opportunities for collateral duties such as substation assignment with deputy assigned take home squads, SWAT, Dive Team, Crowd Control, Honor Guard, FTO, Mobile Field Force, etc. Lateral Transfer Benefits for Experienced Officers Candidates with prior law enforcement experience are eligible to be placed at an hourly rate equal to or higher than that paid by their previous employer. With 5 or more years of prior law enforcement experience, a candidate is eligible to receive 40 hours of vacation upon hire, with higher annual rates based on their prior years of service. Selection Process
Applications will be considered on a continuous basis to fill current position openings. Candidates will complete the following : Formal Walworth County electronic application. Written exam with 70% minimum passing score. Oral department interview. Prior to being considered for a position, candidates will : Complete Law Enforcement Suitability testing (pre-psychological, non-medical). Submit to a thorough background investigation. Complete a ride-along with a Field Training Officer. Interview with the Sheriff and / or Undersheriff. Once a conditional offer of employment has been made, a candidate will complete the following : Post offer psychological evaluation. Post offer physical (medical) examination including drug screen. Law Enforcement Academy pre-acceptance physical fitness testing (candidates needing to attend law enforcement academy only).
Walworth County Employee Benefit Summary
F2 Deputy Sheriff's Association Employees Bargaining Unit : Deputy Sheriff's Association Employees Hired on or after January 1, 2012 Date : January 1, 2019 Probationary Period : Twelve (12) months, beginning on the date you begin field training. During the probationary period your employment is "at-will". Upon successful completion of the probationary period you may appeal a suspension or discharge through the complaint process under 59.26(8) of the Wisconsin State Statutes. Basis of Payment : You are paid for actual hours worked plus pay for any accrued benefit time for which you are eligible. You are eligible for overtime or compensatory time for hours worked in excess of your regular schedule and in accordance with provisions of the collective bargaining unit. Vacation : Accrued based on straight-time hours paid each pay period. You cannot use any vacation until you have completed your first anniversary year of employment. As a full-time employee you earn vacation equivalent to the following : 10 days per year after 1 year of Walworth County Service 15 days per year after 5 years of Walworth County Service 20 days per year after 10 years of Walworth County Service 25 days per year after 20 years of Walworth County Service Sick Leave : Accrued based on straight-time hours paid each pay period. As a full-time employee (40 hours per week) you accrue 3.70 hours biweekly with unlimited accumulation. Subject to verification, accrued sick leave is available for your personal illness or medical appointments after completion of sixty (60) days of your probationary period. Up to 33 hours per year may be used for non-FMLA illness of your parent, spouse or dependent minor child. Holidays : Ten paid holidays each year. Insurance : Health, Dental, Life, Vision and Long Term Disability insurance benefits are available on the first of the month following 30 days of service, provided you complete enrollment forms within 30 days of hire. Health Insurance : You can choose Tier 1 or Tier 2. Tier 1 is a standard co-pay plan. Tier 2 is a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a Health Savings Account (HSA). The County will contribute an amount approved by the County Board, payable as a lump sum to your HSA for Tier 2. You may also elect to contribute to your HSA up to the IRS maximum. You may elect either family or single coverage. The monthly premium will be split between the County and the employee. The employee portion of the premium is 12% of the total cost of the plan. Upon completion of a Health Risk Assessment (HRA) by the employee (and spouse if covered by the Walworth County plan), the premium will be reduced to 10% of the total cost of the plan. Once the employee (and spouse if covered by the Walworth County plan) completes the education / counseling on their highest priority area recommended on their HRA, the premium will be reduced to 7% of the total cost of the plan. For newly hired employees hired after the annual health risk assessment has been offered, the premium will automatically be reduced to 7% for the remainder of the year. Dental Insurance : You may elect either family or single coverage. The County pays 100% of the monthly premium. Life Insurance : The County provides you with term life insurance in an amount equal to $100,000. The County will pay the premium for $25,000 worth of coverage. The balance of the premium will be deducted from your paycheck on a monthly basis. You have the option of purchasing additional coverage for your spouse and / or dependent children. LTD Insurance : The County provides you with Long Term Disability Insurance. The monthly premium is 0.83% of your insured monthly wages. The County shall pay 25% of the
