Director of Inclusion and Community Relations

Position Summary :

The Director of Inclusion and Community Relations in partnership with the University President / CEO provides a broad range of leadership and support to the University's internal and external community initiatives. The Director will lead the development of a vision and effective strategy that champions the importance and value of an inclusive college environment where all Alliant community members feel welcome. The Director will also engage faculty, staff, and students to build a welcoming and inclusive culture.

The Director will assess potential barriers and develop strategies focused on recruiting and retaining a skilled workforce and thriving student body. The Director will design training initiatives on cultural competency, gender differences, disability, sexual harassment, and other topics designed to increase awareness and support of the Alliant values, and maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws.

They will also manage and oversee compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other applicable requirements, including serving as the College's Title VI leader, and assists with Title IX.

The Director works with and across all academic, operational, and administrative areas in implementing the University's objectives and multicultural / international competencies. Responsible for developing the conceptual framework, relationships, procedures, and deliverables that constitute the overall inclusive plan of the University. The Director will ensure that the plan remains aligned with both the Alliant mission, vision, values, goals, and brand, and is compliant with all federal policies, orders, statutes, and laws. The position will be dialogue with other University offices to develop indicators that demonstrate the desired results regarding goals set as a part of the overall University Strategic Plan.

The Director will oversee the inclusion of the Alliant IMPACT values in all aspects of the university how we demonstrate, achieve and celebrate the values of Alliant and should be extremely creative in how the IMPACT values are felt and experienced. Related, the Director will help lead Alliant's Public Benefit certification and status and make this a large part of our brand.

The Director will establish, in consultation with supervisor and staff, the overall department vision, goals, objectives, and strategic plans consistent with the mission and vision of the university. Initiates and participates in overall program development and assessment and organizes resources to achieve goals. Works with various university departments, groups and various academic colleges / departments who focus on recruitment, retention, program completion, licensure rates, and the overall success of all students.

The Director will provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight in developing and enhancing efforts to create and sustain a university culture that embraces, promotes, and prioritizes inclusiveness in the broadest meanings.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the improvement of the existing inclusive culture and serving as an institutional change agent providing leadership, vision and collaboration in the delivery of a comprehensive range of services, policies, and procedures related to inclusive excellence in support of the University's IMPACT Values, to increase the support and the ultimate success of students, faculty and staff. The Director will participate in all aspects of institutional planning to assist in meeting the needs of the student, faculty and staff population, creating a learning and working environment where all members have the opportunity to succeed within the university.

The Director must be able to work closely and effectively with all constituents of the university : faculty, staff, students, alumnae / i, trustees, boards, donors, and others; must represent the University with the highest degree of professionalism and competences; must articulate recommendations and positions clearly and effectively.

Starting Salary : $108,000 to $115,000 annualized (exempt position).

Minimum Qualifications :

Education : Master's degree from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and relevant higher education / diversity experience; doctoral degree preferred.

Experience : Five (5) years' work experience in higher education, preferably in the area of training, management, or multidisciplinary and / or multiethnic consultation.

Certifications, Licenses, etc. : None.

Skills :

Demonstrated success leading and influencing, as an executive champion, the practice of inclusion.

Capabilities around and experience in leading the integration of multiple data sources (including primary and secondary research, social media) into clear, actionable insights and stories.

Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Ability to work with a diverse student, faculty and community is essential.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented organization.

Individual must possess superior interpersonal oral and written communication skills.

Flexibility, independence, tolerance for organizational complexity and ambiguity, and enthusiasm for higher education and for the mission of the University.

Duties & Responsibilities :

Independently develop and execute departmental and the University Strategic plan that aligns with the Alliant IMPACT values, mission, vision, and goals; leads IMPACT values engagement across the entire university.

Conduct regular assessments to evaluate inclusion and engagement across teams and advocate for a more just and inclusive environment using community-engaged approaches.

Work closely with marketing and admissions to lead student recruitment efforts at the highest level and help grow the student body at Alliant.

Plan, implement, oversee, support, and evaluate community engagement efforts and impactful community-engaged partnerships.

Co-lead with Provost and VP of Student Affairs; initiatives to improve student learning outcomes, retention, completion rates, and licensure pass rates across all groups of students.

Work with university career services to establish professional pathways for Alliant students.

Lead Alliant's Public Benefit initiatives and Bcorp status in conjunction with the Office of People and Culture.

Drive measurable social impact programs.

Promote Alliant's commitment to a climate of equity and inclusion through interaction with individuals and agencies inside and outside the university including the Board of Directors, Board of Trustees, Executive Staff, supervisory staff, employees, students, public, community leaders from all groups, civic and grass-root organizations, and Federal, State and local government enforcing authorities. The Director represents the college in community groups, associations, civic clubs, ethnic and non-profit organizations of all types.

Oversee ongoing faculty and staff development education for inclusive excellence topics; lead educational and developmental experiences

Develop and implement institution-wide Inclusiveness strategies aligned with the university's mission and legal frameworks. Advise senior leadership on culture matters.

Ensure compliance with federal / state regulations (e.g., Titles VI & IX, ADA). Oversee policy development and enforcement. Serves as the University's Title VI leader

Partner with OPC to design and deliver training on cultural competency, anti-discrimination, and inclusive practices for all stakeholders.

Provides leadership to the standing boards committees, and ad hoc committees. Develop specific benchmarks and metrics to highlight the overall impact of the committee(s).
