Vice President for Advancement

The Vice President for Advancement, reporting to the President and serving on the President's Leadership Team, provides strategic and tactical leadership for CCA's fundraising, institutional development, and outreach.

Overseeing a team focused on fundraising, alumni engagement, and industry partnerships, the VP advances a culture of philanthropy that is just, equitable, respectful, and welcoming to all. This role drives efforts to grow contributed revenue and elevate CCA's visibility with key audiences by : crafting a compelling case for support; tailoring engagement programs for individuals, industry, and organizations; and leading a high-performing division committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through continuous reflection and improvement.

This position requires a successful background check.

Main Responsibilities :

Provide leadership, strategic vision, and tactical expertise across all fundraising activities, engagement programs, and constituent relationships.

  • Ensure all advancement initiatives reflect CCA's mission and identity, with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) principles and values.
  • Serve as the architect of a comprehensive fundraising and engagement strategy that delivers significant, sustainable growth.
  • Establish clear priorities, objectives, and strategies through coordinated planning across fundraising, alumni relations, industry partnerships, and marketing / communications.

Fundraising & Resource Development

  • Meet ambitious fundraising goals by maximizing giving across annual fund, major and planned giving, alumni and parent giving, industry partnerships, foundation / government relations, and advancement services.
  • Personally manage a select portfolio of major gift prospects, ensuring timely cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Collaborate with the president, provost, deans, and other leaders to define and prioritize fundraising opportunities and create strategies for prospect identification, cultivation, and solicitation.
  • Evaluate philanthropic capacity, identify growth areas, and strategically strengthen staff and resources to expand donor engagement at all levels.
  • Leverage the president, trustees, senior administration, faculty, alumni, and other key volunteers to cultivate and solicit principal and major gifts, serving as coach and co-strategist for the president in the chief fundraiser role.
  • Board & Volunteer Engagement

  • Provide the highest level of support to the board and volunteer leaders, ensuring meaningful, rewarding engagement and strengthening their connection to CCA and each other.
  • Partner in identifying, recruiting, and cultivating new trustees and volunteer leaders, fostering a peer-to-peer culture of philanthropy.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Governance & Nominating Committee and the Advancement Committee, working closely with the president and board chair to strengthen board leadership and effectiveness.
  • Communications & External Relations

  • Working with the president and leadership team, develop clear, compelling messages that articulate CCA's strengths and aspirations to inspire internal and external audiences.
  • Seize opportunities to broaden and strengthen outreach and donor engagement, offering compelling ways for diverse audiences to connect with CCA both personally and philanthropically.
  • Organizational Management & Team Leadership

  • Lead the advancement division with a focus on rigor, inclusion, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Set clear goals, inspire and empower staff, and align their work with CCA's strategic priorities.
  • Foster strong partnerships with administrators, faculty, and staff across the college, ensuring the advancement and alumni relations teams are seen as responsive, collaborative partners.
  • Ensure effective systems, processes, and reporting for data management, gift processing, and budget oversight, adhering to best practices in accountability and compliance.
  • Promote internal collaboration and integration of advancement and alumni relations across the institution.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Minimum Qualifications :

  • Ten+ years of advancement leadership in higher education, arts and culture, or non-profits, with success in major gifts, philanthropic strategy, and team management.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Seven+ years' supervisory experience, with a record of attracting, mentoring, and leading diverse teams.
  • Knowledge of Bay Area philanthropy and its business, cultural, and social landscape.
  • Proven partner to senior leadership, with expertise in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Strong communicator with ability to craft and deliver a compelling case for support.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve ambitious goals in fundraising, partnerships, and outreach.
  • Proficiency with fundraising software, and adept at leveraging digital platforms, social media, AI, and emerging technologies to advance engagement and giving.
  • Energetic, resourceful, and organized, with strong analytical, budgeting, and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound judgment, integrity, and enthusiasm for CCA's mission.
  • Compensation & Benefits :

  • The compensation range for this position is $220,000 - $250,000 annually.
  • CCA offers a comprehensive benefits package, including the choice of five medical plans, generous holiday, sick & vacation time, a retirement match and tuition remission. CCA covers an average of 91% of the medical plan cost for the employee only and an average of 82% for employees with dependents.
  • Position Details :

  • CCA considers a full-time work week to be 37.5 hours per week.
