Job Overview
We are searching for an Instrument Technician who will report to our Maintenance Supervisor at our Lake Charles plant. This person will be accountable for installation, troubleshooting, repair, and routine maintenance of instruments throughout the plant. A large portion of the work includes troubleshooting and coordinating repairs on instrument loops in the various operating units. The position will follow the company and craft standards and specifications and coordinate activities with operations and other crafts when performing various routine maintenance functions.
Responsibilities
- Routine calibration of flow meters, pH transmitters, electronic / pneumatic valve positioners, control valves, valve actuators, mass flow meters, D / P cell transmitters, and thermocouple / RTD transmitters. Recalibrate instruments during major overhauls and perform routine calibrations during shutdowns.
- General and preventive maintenance : remove or replace old or broken electric & pneumatic flow, temperature, pressure, and level transmitters, DCS boards, valve parts, wiring and junction boxes; repair transmitter wiring and modules, chromatographs, pH analyzers, transducers, control valves, and electronic / pneumatic valves; verify DCS (Honeywell and Foxboro) is ranged correctly and adjust when necessary.
- Discriminating and calculating : calculate voltages, amperages, and resistance on series and parallel circuits; convert levels into pressure readings; size control valves.
- Troubleshooting loops : check wiring to / from instruments for proper connections and physical condition; use proper simulator to check output of instrument, ensuring proper signal conversions; analyze electronic devices for malfunctioning sensing elements and replace instrument if defective; verify proper power to transmitters; verify zero and span settings; verify proper air supply pressures to instruments and control valves; check for contamination.
- Inspecting newly installed equipment : commission new control loops by verifying drawings and wiring, calibrating instruments and control valves, verifying input and output ranges in DCS, and verifying proper loop operation to control system.
- Maintain and repair alarm devices : adjust and troubleshoot temperature, pressure, flow, level switches and alarm electronics on alarm devices; function test, calibrate, and repair alarm and shutdown systems using appropriate wiring diagrams and schematics.
