Job Title : Boys JV Soccer Assistant Coach
Classification : Temporary, Non-exempt, Seasonal
Reports To : Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director
Season Dates : November 3, 2025 to February 2026
Job Purpose : Developing Future Varsity Athletes
The Boys JV Soccer Assistant Coach is critical in providing direct support to the Head Coach, focusing on the fundamental skill development, tactical understanding, and character growth of student-athletes. This role is responsible for actively fostering a positive, structured, and challenging team dynamic to prepare players for the next level of competition.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coaching and Player Development
Training Execution : Assist the Head Coach by planning, directing, and supervising all practices and training sessions, focusing on foundational soccer skills and teamwork.
Player Mentorship : Provide consistent, constructive feedback and instruction to athletes during practices and games to accelerate individual skill improvement.
Supervision and Safety : Supervise all student-athletes during team activities, travel, and gatherings, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and school policy.
Adaptability : Be prepared to modify training and practice plans as needed to align with current health and safety regulations.
Team Culture and Logistics
Culture Building : Actively create and promote a healthy, respectful, and high-energy dynamic among players and the coaching staff.
Camaraderie : Coordinate opportunities for the team to build camaraderie and cohesion outside of regular practice sessions.
Logistics Support : Manage, organize, and maintain all team equipment. Assist the Head Coach with the collection and inventory of uniforms at the season's conclusion.
Travel Supervision : Fulfill supervisory duties by riding the team bus for all necessary travel to practices and games.
Administrative and Compliance
Team Communication : Communicate necessary information to the team as directed by the Head Coach.
Professional Development : Participate actively in all coaching meetings and complete all required coaching education and certifications mandated by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and the Athletic Department.
Qualifications and Skills
Experience : Previous playing or coaching experience is required, preferably at the club or high school level.
Education : Undergraduate Degree is preferred.
Sport Knowledge : Demonstrated knowledge of soccer strategy, rules, and fundamental skills appropriate for the JV level.
Interpersonal Skills : Possesses the ability to positively influence team dynamics. Must be organized, positive, patient, and enjoy working with teenagers.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
The role involves consistent hours after school, evenings, and weekends for practices, games, and team events.
Essential Physical Tasks
Ability to work on your feet for extended periods (multiple hours).
Ability to jog, run, and actively demonstrate soccer skills as necessary during practice.
