American Eye Associates / California Retina Associates is searching for an outstanding Part Time Optometrist (2-3 days per week) to join our growing Ophthalmology Practice.
You will be a critical member of our care team, supporting our surgeons who save vision and improve quality of life for our patients.
This is an exciting role where you will get to do different things! The right candidate for this position likes a variety or work, is outgoing, and is excited to work in clinic settings in South Bay San Diego.
Optometrist Job Responsibilities :
1-2 Days per week will be spent conducting Outside Clinic at Health Centers throughout the South Bay area as we provide voluntary services to support clinics targeting populations that need assistance.
While at outside clinic, you will provide screening eye exams for diabetic patients. (We will provide training.) These exams are critical as diabetic patients are prone to diabetic retinopathy.
1 Day per week will be spent at either our National City or El Cajon clinics working with patients. You will have the opportunity to complete refractions and assist patients.
You will treat dry eye, prescribe scleral lenses (we will provide training), and conduct LASIK candidate evaluations. (We will provide training.)
Minimal weekend work. 1x per month you will have 1 hour scheduled on a Saturday to conduct post-op eye checks for LASIK patients.

Our compensation is competitive. This position has flexible work hours! Let us know what 2-3 days per week you have available.

Optometrist Qualifications / Skills :
- Applied understanding of general principles of optometry and best practices for the diagnosis and treatment of eye-related disorders and conditions
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to patients of diverse backgrounds; excellent customer service skills;
ability to maintain patient confidentiality
- General computer proficiency, ability to use EMR / PM systems
- Willingness to meet with referral source MDs and share info regarding the services that we provide
Education and Experience Requirements :
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry program & active state optometry license, and valid CPR certificate.
- Spanish speaking skill preferred, but not required
