Location : University of Oklahoma Medical Center

Shift Available : Full Time (36 hours / week) 7P-7A

The Medicine Nephrology Unit consists of 22 beds. This unit is part of our new collaborative care model, where a grouping of ten patients is cared for by a team consisting of RN, LPN and a dedicated CTA. The unit is divided into two groupings or pods, to care for a medicine surgical patient population, with a focus of renal disease, acute dialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and all other medicine related diagnosis. There are also two dedicated comfort care / end of life suites, which are staffed with a dedicated concierge RN, providing care for the patient and family during the final stages of life. General Description :

Under general supervision, provides preventative and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in the OU Health facility.

Essential Responsibilities :

• Will assist with the nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and obtainment of vital signs on assigned patients or clients.
• Provide care according to an established nursing plan.
• Observe changes in patient's condition and notify supervisory personnel if significant changes occur.
• Provide routine ostomy care, nasogastric tube placement and feeding and placement and discontinuing of oral-gastric tube. Will initiate and monitor oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol.
• Will suction and clean tracheotomy sites.
• May administer oral, intravenous, intra-muscular, intra-dermal, subcutaneous, sub-lingual, vaginal, rectal and topical medications.
• Prepare patients for routine physical examinations and assist the physician during examinations.
• An LPN can function in the role of Surgical Tech if position open is in the operating room.

General Responsibilities :

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

Education : Completion of educational requirements for NCLEX-PN examination.

Experience : None required. One or more years of experience preferred.

Licensure / Certifications / Registrations Required : Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact LPN License (eNLC). Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
