Manager, Coding & Health Information Management (HIM)

Our client is seeking an experienced HIM Manager to oversee daily operations of the Health Information Management department. This leader will ensure accurate and timely management of patient records, coding functions, release of information, birth certificate processing, and compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage HIM operations including record processing, coding, scanning / archiving, deficiency analysis, release of information, and physician record completion.
- Supervise and develop staff : hiring, training, performance evaluation, scheduling, and compliance with departmental policies.
- Ensure compliance with DNV, CMS, CMA, Title 22, HIPAA, and other governing regulations.
- Oversee coding and abstracting functions, ensuring ICD-10-CM / CPT-4 accuracy, APC assignment, and optimal reimbursement.
- Manage birth certificate registration and adherence to State Vital Records Standards.
- Serve as system administrator for document imaging / scanning systems; coordinate with vendor partners.
- Monitor productivity, accuracy, and timeliness across all HIM areas; maintain departmental scorecards.
- Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, finance, and revenue cycle leaders to support documentation integrity and efficient billing.
- Assist with HCAI data submissions, regulatory updates, and internal quality assurance programs.
Qualifications
5+ years supervisory experience in HIM and inpatient coding required.Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, medical terminology, documentation standards, and healthcare regulations.Experience with EHRs, HIM systems, and document imaging platforms.Demonstrated leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, clinical teams, and revenue cycle leadership.Education & Certifications
Bachelor's or Associate degree in Health Information Management preferred.RHIA or RHIT certification required (AHIMA membership required; CHIA membership preferred).LA City Fire Card required within 30 days of hire.
