Department of Forestry, Fire, & Rangeland Management Temporary Faculty Pool

The Department

Forests and rangelands each cover one-third of the land area in the United States. Courses in the Forestry, Fire, and Rangeland Management department teach our students to connect with and manage these lands, working toward a more sustainable future.

We provide three Bachelor of Science degrees : Forestry, Applied Fire Science and Management, and Rangeland Resource Science.

Our graduate program is the Master of Science in Natural Resources with an option in Forestry, Watershed & Wildland Sciences.

At Cal Poly Humboldt, we provide hands-on learning in some of the world’s most spectacular and important forests and rangelands, personal attention from faculty, and a clear path to a career outdoors.

Our faculty work closely with our students to prepare them for careers with government, Tribal, and private employers.

Qualifications

Forestry - Minimum Qualifications

For Forestry courses, the minimum qualifications required are a . degree in Forestry or a related field, and prior or current experience relative to class content.

Preference will be given to candidates with a . in Forestry and prior teaching experience.

Geospatial Analysis - Minimum Qualifications

For Geospatial Analysis (GSP) courses, the minimum qualifications are a . degree in Geospatial Science with an emphasis in Remote Sensing or a related field, as well as prior or current experience relative to class content.

Preference will be given to candidates with a . and prior teaching experience.

Rangeland Resources - Minimum Qualifications

For Rangeland Resources (RRS) courses, the minimum qualifications are a . degree in Rangeland Resources or a related field, and prior or current experience related to class content.

Preference will be given to candidates with a . and prior teaching experience.

Soil - Minimum Qualifications

For Soil courses, the minimum qualifications are a . degree in Soils or Agronomy or a related field, and prior or current experience related to class content.

Preference will be given to candidates with a . and prior teaching experience.

Watershed - Minimum Qualifications

For Watershed courses, the minimum qualifications are a . in Hydrology or a related field, and prior or current experience related to class content.

Preference will be given to candidates with a . and prior teaching experience.

Position Type : Lecturer

Availability : As needed

First Review Date : Applications received by April 1st annually are given first consideration. Early response is encouraged.

Salary : Dependent on qualifications and experience.

The full-time (15 weighted teaching units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules below are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six (6) monthly payments for each full semester.

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges :

$4,530 - $6,056

$5,405 - $11,994

$6,190 - $13,172

Appointees are typically placed at the beginning of the range.

Cal Poly Humboldt sits on the traditional homelands of the Wiyot people in what is currently called Arcata, CA. The Wiyot people call the area Goudi'ni (over in the woods).

The Cal Poly Humboldt campus in Northern California is in close proximity to several thriving Native American tribes and communities.

Humboldt currently has the largest percentage of Native American students in the CSU system and has over 30 Native American faculty and staff, many from local area California Indian tribes.

Cal Poly Humboldt is home to a number of leading Native American programs including the Indian Tribal Education and Personnel Program (ITEPP) and the Indian Natural Resource, Science and Engineering Program (INRSEP).

There are also many opportunities at Humboldt to conduct research, teaching and community work on Native American history and cultures, with resources in Special Collections at the Cal Poly Humboldt library.

The Humboldt Room in the Library has fantastic resources for tribally focused archive materials from the region. Humboldt strives to build a supportive and inclusive Native community and engages with Native communities through initiatives and opportunities like the annual California Indian Big Time, Indigenous People's Week, and a chance to network with other faculty and staff as part of the Cal Poly Humboldt Council of American Indian Faculty and Staff.
