The Opportunity
Property Appraisers are highly trained professionals who perform a variety of essential duties throughout the year. Their work spans three key areas that keep the role both challenging and rewarding :
Appraisers play a vital role in developing and upholding the property values that form the foundation of Washington County's annual property tax statements. These values directly support local schools, public safety, and a wide range of essential community services.
In this role, you'll spend much of your time in the field - inspecting properties, meeting with property owners and industry professionals, and collecting key data. Back in the office, you'll analyze information using our mass appraisal system, conduct detailed reviews for accuracy, and contribute to consistent, well-supported assessments. You'll join a collaborative team that values professionalism, accuracy, and service to the community.
Salary Information :
Property Appraiser I : $30.00 - $36.51 Hourly
Property Appraiser II : $34.83 - $42.34 Hourly
This position may have the option for remote work 1-2 days per week.

NOTE : POSSESSION OF AN ACTIVE APPRAISER REGISTRATION UNDER ORS 308.010 IS REQUIRED AT TIME OF HIRE. COUNTY PROPERTY APPRAISER REGISTRATION IS DIFFERENT THAN THE CERTIFICATION FOR FEE APPRAISERS. The appraisal certification does not substitute for Washington County property appraiser registration. You must apply to the State to take the County property appraiser test and receive notification of registration.

Please note testing is only available on the first, third, and fifth (if applicable) Thursday of each month from 9 am - 12 pm. Exams are conducted via Zoom.

Candidates hired at the Property Appraiser I level are eligible for promotion to Property Appraiser II upon meeting the necessary qualifications and demonstrating proficiency.

Selection Process :
1. Apply today! In lieu of a resume, we ask that you complete and submit an online application, which will be used to screen for minimum qualifications (MQs) and to determine starting pay in accordance with the provision of the Oregon Equal Pay Law.
2. Minimum Qualifications (MQ) Review : Human Resources will screen applications for MQs beginning the week after the posting closes. Additional preferred qualifications screening may be applied depending on the number of applications received. The timeframe to review will be the week of November 23 , 2025.
3. Panel Interviews : Generally, the top 6 - 8 candidates will be invited to participate in a panel interview.
4. Conditional Offer : The top candidate will be required to successfully clear a third-party background check and driving check as pre-employment conditions.
