Salary Range : $23.00 - $25.00 / hour with an annualized salary of $41,8684 - $45,504 plus competitive benefits package

The Role

The Union for Reform Judaism’s (URJ) Camp Newman is seeking a highly organized and reliable Lead Housekeeper to oversee the cleaning and maintenance of residential cabins, common areas, restrooms, dining facilities, and staff accommodations at our camp and year-round retreat center. This key role ensures that all areas are clean, safe, and welcoming for guests, campers, and staff. As part of the camp operations team, the Lead Housekeeper will supervise a team of housekeepers, manage cleaning supplies, and collaborate across departments to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness throughout the property.

What You Will Do

The Lead Housekeeper will report to the Director of Retreat Services & Site Operations and will be responsible for the following :

Cleaning & Maintenance

Oversee cleaning and sanitation of accommodations, common areas, and staff facilities year-round, ensuring safety and cleanliness standards are met.

Ensure proper handling and disposal of cleaning chemicals and maintain cleanliness in high-traffic areas, such as restrooms and dining facilities.

Assist with seasonal deep cleaning and address emergency cleaning tasks promptly.

Monitor and manage inventory of cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment, ensuring proper storage and function.

Coordinate event and retreat setups, ensuring cleanliness and organization according to specific requirements.

Ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines, reporting any hazards or concerns to the Camp Director or Facilities Manager.

Respond to emergency cleaning tasks, including spills, accidents, and urgent repairs, ensuring quick resolution.

Keep records of cleaning schedules, supply orders, and any maintenance issues requiring attention.

Supervision & Team Management

Lead, train, and supervise housekeeping staff, assigning daily tasks and ensuring quality control through regular inspections.

Conduct regular inspections of all facilities, promptly addressing any cleanliness issues or concerns.

Foster a positive, collaborative work environment, encouraging teamwork and open communication.

Interact professionally with guests, campers, and staff, ensuring satisfaction with cleanliness and overall facility upkeep.

Preferred Experience

Prior experience in housekeeping, preferably in a hospitality, camp, or retreat setting.

Prior experience supervising or leading a team would be highly valuable.

A strong understanding of cleaning standards, safety regulations, and equipment handling will be crucial to ensure that the facility meets cleanliness and safety requirements.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical ability to lift, bend, and carry cleaning supplies and equipment, and to perform other manual tasks as needed.
