General Description :

The Workforce Development unit at the Community College of Philadelphia seeks part-time Instructors with experience teaching adult learners Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt courses. Ideal candidates will bring a strong industry background and proven expertise in delivering engaging, practical, and certification-aligned training. These courses introduce students to Lean, Six Sigma, DMAIC methodology, process improvement tools, and real-world applications across industries. Classes may be offered during daytime and / or evening hours at the Community College of Philadelphia.

Workforce Development provides noncredit education to businesses, organizations, and individuals wishing to enhance their skills and meet professional goals. We offer a comprehensive menu of high-quality continuing education and career-training programs delivered by expert faculty and staff.

Teaching faculty are an integral part of the larger Academic and Student Success Division at CCP including Workforce Development or Career Training. The Academic and Student Success Division is a community of learners committed to student success as demonstrated through equitable and measurable outcomes, innovative practices, relevant curriculum, quality learning, and a rewarding student experience. As a minority-serving institution, CCP faculty contribute significantly to our collective efforts to improve student success and eliminate racial equity gaps through the utilization of inclusive and high-quality teaching practices.

Specific Responsibilities :

  • Lean Manufacturing Practices : Provide training and applied instruction in Lean Manufacturing tools such as 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Statistical Process Control, Problem Solving, Kaizen, Kanban, Visual Factory, and SMED, ensuring students gain hands-on experience with industry-standard continuous improvement methods.
  • Curriculum Development : Plan, develop, and revise the educational curriculum for the Lean Six Sigma program, ensuring alignment with industry standards and certification requirements (e.g., Yellow Belt, Green Belt, Black Belt).
  • Instruction : Teach adult learners Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies; provide applied instruction in tools such as DMAIC, value stream mapping, root cause analysis, and statistical process control.
  • Documentation & Assessment : Maintain and update all student competency, project work, and certification preparation documentation. Ensure accurate assessment of applied learning outcomes.
  • Commitment to Mission : Demonstrate a sense of connection and responsibility for helping the College achieve success through a commitment to its mission, vision, and values.
  • Technology Integration : Demonstrate appropriate use of technology (e.g., statistical software, data visualization platforms, learning management systems) to further student learning and incorporate instructional technology to support the improvement process.
  • Collaboration & Leadership : Communicate effectively, share vision, focus on people, initiate positive change, value differences, and foster collaboration. Work with and inspire students and colleagues to achieve college, departmental, and individual success. Proactively identify and address problems in academic and project contexts.
  • Inclusive Practices : Establish an inclusive learning environment. Demonstrate an understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the College’s faculty, staff, and students.
  • Student-Centered Learning : Manage the learning environment with a focus on applied, student-centered learning. Implement diverse teaching and learning strategies (e.g., case studies, simulations, project-based learning) that accommodate varied learning styles.
  • Teaching Excellence : Strive for excellence in teaching by applying best practices in Lean Six Sigma education and modeling behaviors that encourage student success and persistence. Recognize the unique needs, culture, and context of students and advocate for their learning and professional development.
  • Community Engagement : Actively participate in the academic life of the College, including graduation, recruitment events, general assemblies, student life activities, and cross-functional teams. Create experiential learning opportunities inside and outside of the classroom, including industry-aligned projects and dual-enrollment opportunities for high school students.
  • Assessment & Continuous Improvement : Participate fully in the assessment of student learning and student learning outcomes at the course, program, and institutional levels. Incorporate feedback into ongoing program improvement.
  • Student Success & Innovation : Strive to maximize student success by utilizing innovative teaching strategies and technologies, including online and hybrid learning platforms, to meet diverse student needs.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Valid Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification from a globally recognized body (e.g., ASQ, IASSC, Six Sigma Global Institute, or equivalent) required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience delivering Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and / or Black Belt training (virtual and / or in-person) required.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and teach experienced professionals from diverse domains required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional experience in roles involving process improvement, quality management, operations, or business transformation required.
  • Strong background in applying Lean Six Sigma methodologies in real-world projects with measurable outcomes required.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Additional certifications in project management (PMP, PRINCE2), Agile, or related domains preferred.
  • Experience training corporate teams in regulated or high-compliance industries (e.g., healthcare, manufacturing, BFSI) preferred.
  • Comfortable with virtual training delivery tools like Zoom and LMS platforms preferred.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and learner engagement skills preferred.
  • Experience preparing students for certification exams preferred.
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency preferred.
