Sr. Director of Merchandise Planning Nordstrom Designer
This position is located at Nordstrom's downtown Seattle headquarters and follows a hybrid work model, with four days in the office and one remote workday each week. The Sr. Director of Merchandise Planning Nordstrom Designer is responsible for the development and management of assortment strategies that connect back to our financial plans and product priorities. They work with their buying partners to define multi-year strategies and are responsible for managing their portfolio to maximize financial outcomes. This leader builds and develops a large team of high performing future Nordstrom leaders, leads organizational change, and champions new processes to improve efficiency.
A Day in the Life
Partner with Buying Leadership Team to design annual and multi-year divisional strategies that support the customer strategy and produce competitive advantage to deliver superior results, and provide strategic direction and leadership to foster innovative and evolved business practices. Ensure alignment on priorities and direction by partnering with appropriate groups and leaders, internally and externally and proactively identify the need for division-wide initiatives and implement appropriate plans. Ensure fiscal discipline is practiced throughout the division. Participate in supplier budget planning and communication of those plans for alignment. Lead assortment planning teams to drive higher levels of performance and overall results based on objective standards. Identify and develop merchant leaders who are promotable throughout the Nordstrom Merchandising Group. Act as a change leader to support company initiatives and ensure adoption by merchandising team.
You Own This If You Have
10+ years of experience in retail buying or assortment planning. Bachelor's degree in a related field required. Experience leading cross-functional teams of both direct and indirect reports with demonstrated ability to prioritize, delegate, and drive shared outcomes, and strategic planning experience in translating leadership vision into executable strategies and initiatives. Proven track record of thought leadership and ability to leverage data to build business cases to influence leadership decision-making. Ability to manage competing priorities using collaborative approach to problem solving of complex business issues. Ability to work independently to drive initiatives; motivated and results-oriented; comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and dealing with ambiguity, and excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with ability to present complex material in a digestible, consumable manner to executives and senior leaders.
