About the job

Advantra is partnering with a seed-stage AI infrastructure startup in San Francisco to hire a Software Engineering Intern to contribute to their distributed query engine and cloud service.

About the role

You will work alongside engineers to build features for a distributed query engine and cloud service. You will write code, test systems, and help solve real-world data challenges. You will gain hands-on experience with distributed systems and AI workloads while receiving mentorship from senior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to core features of the distributed query engine.
  • Develop and maintain cloud service components.
  • Write clean and maintainable code under guidance.
  • Collaborate with engineers to design solutions for data challenges.
  • Assist with testing and debugging system components.
  • Document code and workflows for internal use.
  • Participate in team discussions and code reviews.
  • Learn best practices for distributed systems and data infrastructure.

Core requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science or related field.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and / or Rust.
  • Interest in distributed systems, databases, or data infrastructure.
  • Ability to write clean and maintainable code.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Willingness to learn in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Comfortable collaborating with senior engineers.
  • Exposure to testing and debugging code.
  • Curiosity about AI and ML workloads.
  • Ability to work on complex technical problems in a team setting.

    • Nice to have

  • Experience with distributed query engines or data pipelines.
  • Knowledge of SQL or data processing frameworks.
  • Open-source contribution experience.
  • Experience with GPU or cluster computing.
  • Familiarity with AI or ML model pipelines.
