The American Equity Underwriters, Inc. (AEU) (An Amwins company) is the program administrator of the American Longshore Mutual Association, Ltd. (ALMA), a group self-insurance fund authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor to provide USL&H coverage for the liabilities of its insureds under the United States Longshore & Harbor Workers' Compensation Act.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Junior Developer supports the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications across multiple platforms. This role works collaboratively with the software development team to deliver efficient, secure, and scalable technology solutions that support business operations. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous learning within a team-oriented environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with senior developers and engineers to design, develop, and maintain software applications.
  • Contribute to coding, debugging, and testing activities to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Develop applications using common frameworks such as .NET and VS Code.
  • Assist in maintaining and enhancing existing applications, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
  • Utilize SQL and document databases for data retrieval, updates, and integration.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to development standards and best practices.
  • Provide on-call or after-hours support as required to resolve critical application issues.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of development processes and application configurations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of software development experience preferred; entry-level candidates with relevant coursework or internships will be considered.
  • Foundational experience or knowledge in C#, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Familiarity with .NET, Angular, and modern software development frameworks.
  • Basic understanding of database management, SQL, and data security principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative to learn new technologies and improve existing skills.
  • Exposure to cloud-based environments such as Azure or AWS.
  • Understanding of version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Awareness of agile development methodologies and DevOps practices
